A movie version of cult TV series Buffy: The Vampire Slayer is apparently on the way, reports Showbizspy. According to their sources, Sarah Michelle Gellar is in talks to return to the role that made her name, whilst it's thought Joss Whedon would also return to write and direct the film - if he isn't too busy with his new series Dollhouse. We're not quite sure where this came from; there had been rumblings of a movie, but Whedon always dismissed them, or at the very best, said a film would be a long way off. No word on possible returning cast, but apparently Buffy may have had a kid. No confirmation on anything yet, but it's about time we got a film adaptation of this cool series.

I was a major fan of the series as a lad and I always thought it warranted a Film to tie it all off. hard to know how it would turn out mind, Serenity had the perfect plot for a film even for those who had not seen it before.

Still if Whedon comes back on board count me in

God no this doesn't need a movie.

Buffy started becoming horrible towards the end and how will he continue it on without annoying the diehard fans? It already got a "Season 8" in the comics which ruins the continuity and if he picks up immediately after the show it's a slap in the face to those who read the comics.

I'd rather an Angel movie but the same can be said for that with the comics.

I wish they'd just make Ripper already :(

    rofl Rippa Giles ? :D

Id love to see the cast return for a movie, i still watch the old episodes every time i see them on, epic shows.

And yeah buffy kinda went sloppy in season 7, but thats cause Joss was kinda rushed to wrap it up i think as Sarah didnt wanna do it anymore. So he had to try and make it an epic end so the show got sloppy trying to pack in an ass load of new annoying characters.

He wrapped up Angel alot better though, i loved how it ended. A lesson learned i guess from Buffy's sloppy end.

Season 7 is still watchable, few cringe worth bits but meh.

Season 6 and Season 7 were a bit poor, in my opinion but Season 8 (the comics) is actually quite decent and it's meant to be canon so a new movie would just be a bit of an insult to that. Let's just keep it as a rumour.

i would of loved a ripper series and/or a spike tv movie shortly after the series ended, but by this stage 6 years on it seems kinda redundant. Fans need to move on, we got 7 years, which is pretty good by UStv standards

edit: And i hate the season 8 comics! they try too much to be like the show(with added wackiness) and fail miserably.
I do like the season 6 Angel comics though, because theyre plotted like comics should be, plus the storyline is much more interesting

I'd love more Buffy any day, but a film isnt necessary

It was actually the best series finale of any other TV show

Buffy was all about fighting inner demons, and actual demons

From the very first episode, Buffy's struggle was being singled out / outcast as "the Chosen one", and of course all the stuff caused by the hellmouth

So in the end, she went back to the very start and killed her 2 problems: Nuked the Hellmouth, and finally became a [more] "normal" girl

And they managed to end the season on a high note, leaving it open for continuation, yet giving us complete closure

BTW, Sarah's up the swanny now :D

The original film was crap but the tv series especially the first few seasons were great it went down hill near the end.

I'd like to see a film with the all the original tv cast plus Angel back plus Joss Whedon back on boards

It might not happen for a while since SMG is now pregnant
Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar is pregnant, according to U.S. reports.

The actress, 31, and her actor husband Freddie Prinze Jr, 33, are expecting their first child together in autumn.

'They're very excited,' a source close to the couple told U.S. magazine People.

He's workin on Cabin in the Woods, and has Goners lined up next

And he'll prob be workin on Dollhouse in between, i'd say it'll be pretty big once it kicks off properly

I cant see this happenin any time soon, i'd say at least 3 years

You see Dollhouse getting 3 seasons?

That is incredibly optomisitc as the ratings are quite bad as it stands and being in the death slot of Friday..

This will most likely change for season 2. It was given the Friday slot so FOx could try and market a sci fi night with strong female leads. With Terminator performing so poorly and Fox really only keeping it on air to drum up interest in Salvation come next season Dollhouse will be on a more viewer friendly night.

I hope you're right but I sincerely doubt it. I can't see it getting renewed but I hope it does. It really is the weakest show of any of the Wheadon alumni though. Even Drive was much better..

I think the main problem is that the series lacks any real stand out character. All the characters so far seem to have been copy, pasted and rewritten from Whedon's 3 other shows.

There is a lot of concern over the 13th episode not being aired but the reason for that has nothing to do with Fox not having faith in the show. The 13th episode is being made for the DVD and foreign markets as Fox sold the show as a 13 episode series. Fox insiders have pretty much said that there will be a second season and that it will be given a more optimistic night to air. While I still pine over what could have been in regard Firefly, Whedon and all his cohorts should have learnt by now and gone to rival networks. If Dollhouse dose get cancelled then Whedon has only himself to blame.

There's a quote from the creater of Action regarding how they had offers from Fox and HBO on the same day, Fox offered more money so they went with fox. A few weeks after the show began it's run it was quickly shelved, had they gone to HBO chances are it would have ran for at least 3 seasons. At the end of the day money is king and if Whedon truly believed in his shows and wanted them to be treated with the respect they deserve then he and Fox should have parted company.

The thing about not going with Fox however is that Fox underwent a change at the top. The guys in charge truly wanted Wheadon and gave the show a chance without a script been written as they comissioned a 7 show run initially from the concept alone.

As opposed to NBC this year who under Silverman have cancelled something like 15 of the 24 new shows with another 3 being on the verge of cancellation, Fox have been relatively tame in comparison.

If they've given the go ahead for a second season that's great for the cast and crew but it really is Wheadons name alone that is selling it and giving it life. I love Wheadon and was a die hard fan from the Xmen runs and Buffy,Angel and Firefly but it really is a horrible show but then again I'm judging it to a slightly hire standard which I should (and probably will) lower when I rewatch the show in its entirety.

As interesting ast this is though we've gone way off topic so yeah... Buffy movie, no thanks :p

Buffy the vampire Slayer got me out of my pre-pubescent asexuality with a fine flourish.

I love Sarah Michelle Gellar, especially in Cruel Intentions.

I saw this in The Star on Saturday to my complete surprise. The premise sounds awful, Buffy as a vengeful mom? No thanks. I'd be more open to a film if they hadn't made the comics canon because I would have liked to see Buffy and co. aiding Angel and co. in fighting hell on earth.

Yeah they try to hard now, Buffy experimenting as a lesser etc

I wish she'd go back to college :(
