I soon need to replace my existing car with something a little more family friendly (6 / 7 seats), but still want an interesting drive. I need suggestions !

I spotted this which would be rather interesting Merc R63 (http://www.carzone.ie/search/Mercedes-Benz/R-Class/R63L-Aut/200908191890064/advert) - would love to try it - too much cash though. I don't need / want a SUV - so that's the q7 / x5/ xc90 out - having said that may be tempted to try the 3.0sd X5 - very few second hands though.

    Any suggestions ?

Check out THIS bad boy, I am getting close to having to buy something practical, I'm going to try and get something fun at the same time.

That R63 has to be even more unsellable then the unregistered Alfa 156GTA that's been doing the rounds on boards over the last few months. A 500Bhp 6.3L, 80K MPV, now that's what you call a niche market!

Sounds like you are looking to what's called a CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) or an estate with a 3rd seat row.

A friend of mine has the Merc R class and it is a hideous looking mammoth of a car (It is insanely big!)

I believe Mercedes also have the E class estate with 3rd row of seats now. That would be a good choice.

I like the suggestion, Peasant - that would be hilarious at traffic lights.

Anyone any experience of the B9 Tribeca ?

    Keep the suggestions coming..

    Thanks
