More bunny bashing.

After watching the weather forecast on Sky News for today and waiting for the rain that never came, what a beautiful morning, by Noon cabin fever had long started to set in. By 12.30 with the sweats starting and no sign of the rain it was time to get out.

So a quick call to my good shooting buddy Dwighet it was arranged to meet at my new permission for a bunny bashing session. I only recently got this new shoot and it’s going great, every ditch has so many burrows that I don’t know what’s holding up the trees. So at 1.30 we met up at the farm.

Dwighet has a lovely new (to him) CZ 500 Anniversary edition 22lr with gold inlay and a fluted barrel. On top is a Bushnell 4-12x40 Banner scope that only arrived yesterday and need zeroing in, which was quickly completed after I had taken the first rabbit,@60m, off the gate as we got to the farm. Then it was along the track up to the main farm where Dwighet spied some grey crows that spotted us before we could get near enough to get a shot away but we’ll be back.

In the next field I took another rabbit while Dwighet snuck up to the hedge to try for some crows but again they were off as he took aim on them. But down further in the same field Dwight got a good rabbit @50m in the next field, not an easy shot while standing through a gap in the trees. And then only a few paces more he saw another, a good way off. “Go for it” I encouraged him knowing it was a good distance away. Down he went and off the bi-pod took the shot. Down went the rabbit in one. I went and picked it up while Dwighet ranged it @103y, just as well I didn’t put money down on that shot because I’d be out of pocket now.

We both stopped by the river to take in the vista and comment on how the rain has stayed off and what a good day it had turn out, the sun was shining and the birds singing away. Over in the next field where the land rose up we could see some more prey. In quick succession Dwighet took the next 2 laying prone @60m, the first dropped and with a quick recycle so did the other one. I wish I had those younger eyes that he has to see better. We made our way back to where we had started missing a couple on the way.

Round two was much the same with a couple more and a few missed. But on the return we could see 3 big rabbits up the field a good ways off, with a few baby bunnies between us and these. So we crept along by the ditch to get nearer, as we got closer we could see 4 more in a dip in the field about 75m off. These again were a good size. I could not see them when laying peone as my bi-pod was only a 6”-9” so the only way I could get any of the 4 was to get closer. So a stalk started to move up the field on all fours and then on our belly’s. After 25 minutes crawling and at 50m I could see them to take a shot. Both of us had one each sighted in and I started counting to 3.
On 3 Dwighet fired, on 3 and a half I fired but my rabbit had already jumped 2 feet in the air so I missed but so had Dwighet. After nearly half an hour of stalking those Easter bunny’s got a lucky brake.

So that was the end to today’s outing but there’s always more to come.
We were out for close on 5 hours and shot 12 rabbits between us. Of those 12 I would say 6 had the mixy. Not good to see these rabbits with their eyes closed over with pus and completely blind.

I was glad to have been able to return a good afternoons shooting to Dwighet for the times he has bought me out with him to his shoot. Cheers mate and we will do it again soon.

There were 500 made in the limited edition and then they made more but they are "seperate" to the limited edition ones AFAIK

Yes Dwighet's is 300 (something) of 500 and it's engraved onto the stock or barrel. I'm not sure which because my eyes fill with tears of emotion when I get to hold it.

    Im not too sure Ronn..
Was around 700 i think..I saw it.Had to have it.And closed my eyes when I handed the credit card over. Yuo know that kind of way;) I probably paid too much but the 3 gun dealers I know say that if I mind it ,it will hold its value..Thats the reason for the 2nd hand stock for it..The original is in bubble wrap under the bed..still in mint condition

Very nice Dwighet,i think new stock actually goes well with it also.
on another point,be cautious of showing serial numbers, might sound ott but lot of possible unpleasnt scenarios

make sure you put silica in with it and keep changing it so as not get it molding.
