Ford Fiesta Battery

Hi I drive a 96 ford fiesta and when I start it in the morning it cuts out. Thats grand because its probably cold but when I am coming to a stop it sometimes cuts out. It can get really bad where it can keep doing that when I stop. When this happens the red light for the battery on my dash thing lights. Sometimes this happens and the red thing lights but i can just about save it from cutting out. Is this a case of the battery not charging properly. Another thing I noticed is that when I disconnect my battery from the car and then reconnect it the car works near perfect for a few weeks and then I repeat the process. Has anyone got any ideas what this could be and is there a more suitable way to fix it other than disconnecting the battery every few weeks. Thanks

Try doing a throttle body clean.
Sounds similar to a problem i was having in an ould golf.
Shouldn't be anything to do with your battery at all.
Do a google search for "cleaning throttle body"
    Good luck

The battery light is probably only coming on because the engine is cutting out - when the engine stops the alternator stops, hence the light. A common problem with these Fiestas is the Idle Control Valve either gets dirty or fails completely - you should try getting this cleaned out, or get a new one if that doesn't solve the problem. I had the same problem and cleaning this solved it for me. Getting a new fuel filter should help too if it hasn't been changed in a while. Cleaning the throttle body like 8vjohn said might help as well.

When you disconnect the battery, the ECU gets reset which may explain why your car runs differently for a while. It should only take an hour or two of driving to "learn" things again though.
