Standing start at a traffic lights - then boom. Chainring sort of folded and almost all the bolts popped off the cranks as well. Lucky didn't get creamed.

Chainring and cranks on the bowery look like they are made from plastic anyway.

    My hero... *swoon*

You should have cleaned your bike :p

Seriously though, glad you didn't get hurt, that could have been a nasty one

Glad you are alright, that could definetely have been a nasty one.

Was the chainring corroded or anything?

Respect to Tunney and his massive torque. Giant Bowery vs Tunney... +1 Tunney

It's a FSA Vero, pretty common 3/32 on a lot of major manufacurers' bikes, wonder if a 1/8 would have stood up better.

Mind you if Tunney can cycle a Bowery for a few years before he does that I reckon us normals will probably do OK :)

@Tunney- admit there was a modicum of satistaction when it went "crack!" :pac:

MMMMMmmmm scares me a little as i do a fair bit of training on my bowery. Then again, so does blorg and he hurt himself before the bike...

Chainring perfect nick. No issues, I'd checked the chain and chainrings recently.

CAn you recommend a 1/8 chain, chain ring and, rear thingy(its hardly a cassette)?

Sugino 75 and Dura-Ace chainset and sprocket

Maybe slight overkill for the bike to completely replace the crankset along with all the rest of that, you are near getting into spending more than the bike is worth.

If you want to go to 1/8 I think the Vero is 130 BCD, you might want to measure it to be sure. You would just need new chainring, chain and cog then.

Could just have been a freak occurence though, you run thinner chain/chainrings on your geared bike, probably easiest/cheapest overall just to get a new 3/32 chainring of decent quality.

Similar thing happened to me while skip stopping in UCD, as the back tire hit the ground, the chainring folded and popped the C/ring bolts off! Replaced crankset as I was doing it anyway, but unless you want to spend the money, I'd just replace the ring (depending on chain/rear cog wear)!

Speaking of things bent/warped/snapped, here's what happened me this morning. photo.php?pid=1639524&id=703949439&ref=mf
I'm pretty sure it broke from old-age or wear and tear. Luckily my sister has riser handlebars on her bike that fit that I will...borrow :D
