Teddy Long is now the new General Manager of SD and Tiffany is now the interim General Manager of ECW.

    ECW

Christian, Tommy Dreamer, Finlay and Mark Henry would compete in an Elimination Chase over the next few weeks to see who will face ECW Champ at Backlash. In the culmination of an action-packed Fatal Four Way Match, Finlay once again employed the trusted help of his shillelagh to defeat Henry, walloping The World’s Strongest Man out of the Elimination Chase as he was attempting The World’s Strongest Slam on Tommy Dreamer. As a result, The Belfast Brawler will face Christian and Dreamer in a Triple Threat Match next week.

Unified WWE Tag Team Champions Carlito & Primo & Evan Bourne def. John Morrison, The Miz, & Tyson Kidd
After Primo hit the Backstabber on Tyson Kidd, the high-flying Evan Bourne dropped his gravity-defying Shooting Star Press.

    SmackDown

    * Matt Hardy comes out and demands an apology from Jeff. He says if Jeff doesn't apologize he's going to leave on a stretcher. Jeff comes out and attacks Matt. Matt flees to the back.
    * Teddy Long announces Matt vs. Jeff in a Stretcher Match for later tonight.
    * Todd Grisham & Jim Ross are commentating.
    * Josh Matthews is doing ECW commentary until the draft or otherwise.
    * Big Show b. Kofi Kingston
    - Big Show got the easy win after countering Kofi off the top rope.

    * The Great Khali b. Santino Marella
    - Santino comes out and says that he could be drafted to SmackDown, so he opens a challenge for any wrestler in the back. The Great Khali comes out and says he can't quit thinking of Santina and he wants a kiss or he'll fight Santino. Santino declines and Khali demanded a referee come out and ring the bell.

    * Gail Kim b. Michelle McCool
    * The Cutting Edge is up next with special guest John Cena. Edge tells Cena how much he hates him. Cena then challenges Edge to hit him, but he walks away instead. Theodore Long comes out and announces they will fight for the World Championship tonight.
    * Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes b. Carlito & Primo Colon in a non-title match.
    * Randy Orton comes out and cuts a promo on the Six-Man Tag Match at Backlash.
    * Matt Hardy b. Jeff Hardy in a Stretcher Match.
    - After a failed Swanton Bomb from Jeff landing on the stretcher, Matt capitalized by rolling Jeff to the top of the ramp, hitting him with a chair, and crossing the finish line.
    * John Cena b. Edge to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.

Edge v Cena was a dark match.

Does there not be a Raw or Smackdown thread each week while the show is on like the wrestlemania one ?

Watched my first Wrestlemania in about 5 years last week and so decided to start watching Raw and Smackdown again especially with draft happening next week. Its like getting to start afresh.

Raw normally gets a thread when its one, normally it busy enough. Smackdown rarely gets a thread though as their is simply not as much interest in the show plus people have read the spoilers wednesday morning.

Why not as much interest in Smackdown. Is it because Raw has the more popular wrestlers ? Surely this can change during the draft or does Raw usually remain the more popular one. Sorry about the Q's but I stopped watching when the invasion happened and back then Raw and Smackdown were not seperate entities.

The fright night is a killer, plus its not live as well is a hindrance as the spoilers are on the net a few days before. The main thing which is killing it right now its on a network that is dying, and most expect it not to be around next year. The ratings have been hurt because of this and last but not least the main stories recently have happened on Raw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

But sure Raw being broadcast live in Ireland/UK is a relatively new feat. It was usually shown on fridays then Smackdown on saturdays with results available off the net. I remember when I used to watch none of myself or the mates even bothered with the results off the net. I dont know I am just a bit confused as back when I was watching it both shows were equally as important but I suppose thats more got to do with wrestlers and storylines broadcasting on both shows.

Because the brand split does not mean anything anymore and everyone knows that he will be back on Raw ofically after the draft.

Its a new idea. No more play by play announcers. Anyway Grisham is around along time now and deserves a shot, can't be worse than adamle or coach.

    Ok, just done watching this:

    Matt opening section:
Matt's gotten decent with his promos as of late, i have to admit. Better than the I WILL NOT DIE!! crap he was coming out a few years ago anyway. Jeff looks like he botched his entrance into the ring and banged his leg. He could also be selling one of the bumps from the Mania match though

    Big Slow/Kofi Kingston:
What was the point of this? They build Kofi to be the ultimate runner up in the MITB, and then have Big Slow, who for all intents and purposes, has been floating around in and out since 2002 serving little to no purpose. Kofi gives decent offence, Slow sells little of it and puts him out of his misery eventually.

Santino Marella walks out, i take a piss while he tries to be funny... again!
I come back from piss, Khali destroys him. If only this happened every week.

    Gail Kim/Michelle McCool:
Kim is so going to bomb in WWE, she just doesn't seem herself in the 20x20 ring anymore. They put her over Missus Taker though, but the match was pretty meh.

Cutting Edge - Guest: John Cena
Oh we get a load of publicity crap about 12 rounds and his media appearances before this. I couldn't care for the movie, or for Cena at this stage. Edge's promo is fairly poor, with the most intense thing coming out of his mouth is "I HATE YOU CENA!", the "desperate for the title" part of his character is unfortunately wearing thin. That said, i'll look forward to the match at Backlash, these two have yet to disappoint and was a big reason for me staying tuned in 2006.

    Rhodes & DiBiase/Carlito & Primo:
Love watching all four. Although Primo standing on his neck with his legs in the air after taking a shot does wear thin. I do wonder what the plan for the tag champions are for Backlash are though, there can't be that many teams left at this stage.

Orton cuts a monotone promo after the match, I should care about this, but i actually don't. Anything with Shane McMahon trying to wrestle and then pulling his usual one high spot kills interest for me.

    Matt/Jeff - Stretcher Match:
NOW THIS!! This is what we should have gotten at Wrestlemania. I hate stretcher matches, the last one i remember seeing myself was Judgment Day 2003 which gave us the god awful Slow/Lesnar match. So I wasn't expecting a lot, especially what these two put themselves through at Mania and the botches that happened. But this was a damn good match. Jeff oversells the swanton onto the very heavily leather padded stretcher. It pains me to say this, but this could be the push that finally elevates Matt to main event, but I bet none of you ever thought that it would be Jeff who'd give him the rub!

I agree with all that but I loved the Cena and Edge promo, Edge is awesome when he is serious and Cena done a good job as well. They have had great matches and I love watching them wrestle but it has to end at Backlash enough is enough Vince.
Gail Kim has been poor since she came back, Mc Cool was much more impressive last night something that I thought I would never say! Meltzer and Alvarez the other week really tore into Kim, pretty much saying she has lost it since she has returned to the WWE. I don’t know maybe its rustiness?
Matt has been great since he turned heel but we all know Jeff is winning this feud probably at Backlash.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,669 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

I'd be happy to see Matt v Jeff every week. It was good to see them in the main event, wouldn't be unlike wwe to have the cutting edge to end the show. Jeff riding the stretcher was pretty cool.

The edge cena match is being set up as the ending of their feud. But
they are great on screen together so i don't think it will be the end, creative always go back to something that works. I would actually like to see them team up at some stage when edge has a face turnor cena has a heel turn.

I can see the hardy feud running a long time. They may have other feuds going on in the next few months sfter backlash but the feud between them will be bubbling along in the background for a long time.

The thing is, WWE lost a lot of momentum with Mania. They had a great ramp up for No Way Out and the PPV itself. Then lost it. So Cena/Edge will generate viewers interest because they never fail.

I didn't see her return, but she was horrible to watch at Mania, she really was. I never thought she was that big of a deal during her first stint in WWE either, when every move that came out of her was a rana of some sorts. Then I saw her TNA stuff and was really impressed. So i've no idea what the hell is up with her, otherwise she'll be sent to ECW.
Matt has been great since he turned heel but we all know Jeff is winning this feud probably at Backlash.

Hard to say, I think the draft could have a lot to do with this, to be honest.

Thought smackdown was terrible with not one thing I liked, and JR really got on my tits calling the Cody/Ted tag team Legacy.

And ECW, what's the point bigging up the draft then having an elimination race for the title. Couldn't anyone in that race be drafted spoiling the entire thing?

She didn't impress enough in her first WWE stint to even make the wrestling roster at TNA, she was managing AMW when she first arrived but she exploded when Kong came in. Big fish in a little pond IMO. She was clearly meant to be one of the last few in the Mania Royale but she botched her move to knock herself out. In 2 weeks she has destroyed any momentum she ever had from TNA

That's because at the time TNA didn't really have a womens division. Her first matches post-Sirelda with Jacqueline were excellent especially the cage match at Lockdown '07 and she was a deserving champ when they started the division at BFG '07. But after watching her match this week on Smackdown she looked a third of the wrestler who had those awesome matches with Kong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,492 ✭✭✭EdK

I'm not going to pass judgement on Kim just yet she's spent a good few years away from a WWE ring and was on the bench for months even after she resigned, that coupled with the fact McCool isnt exactly a veteran ( though she likes to think she is) not saying Michelle hasnt improved either but I'm going to wait abit longer, it could be pressure from the back and that sort of thing too

That said even when she's off she can't be worse than Eve,Maria,Melina (yes she's ****) etc

She was probably carried by Kong to be honest. Kongs one of the best workers around, male or female at the moment IMO.

I don't think Kong carried Kim. While Kong is awesome, Kim is certainly nearly as good if not as good. Kim had good matches with Jacqueline, Love and pretty much everyone else in the division while she was there and was the person who in general carried the tag matches that she's been in (and TNA have a lot of Knockout tag matches).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,492 ✭✭✭EdK

Well in fairness Gail carrying Kong is unlikely isnt it? ;)

Actually in a joke I think ive thought of a point, while Kong is very good the women she faces have to work extra hard to impress as due to her size the offence that can be done on her is extremely limited and Gail was able to work around those limitations others including ODB who tried to use a power game ended up botching moves and failing, Kong bumps well for her size but I still think its a fair point perhaps there should be a Gail Kim thread started folks

I'd agree with this. It's no coincidence that since Gail left the division has gone to **** and they can't replace her. She was a great face against an epic heel. In reality, they put her on the wrong brand. They could have lashed her in against Beth to rehash the same kind of material they used for Kong had Beth not lost to Melina for no reason

She would have been more squash material for Beth. The womens division on Raw seems to act as a mere backdrop for Beth these days. :(
Their is little competion on SD in the faces department, Maria is really over but incredibly bad in the ring, the Belle twins are useless unless on the arms of Mizorrison, and the rest are heels.:o

Maryse is fantastic, so vain. And in fairness to Raw, Beth isn't even champ ATM.

Also, I think McCool is making a decent go as a heel, definitely better than i thought she'd do

I can't remember so these are questions. Is it not the music of priceless they come out to the ring, is piceless not on the entrance video and are they legacy when Orton is not with them?

I can see why it would be confusing to hear legacy, legacy, legacy when they (If i remember correctly) come out to the ring with the pricless music and entrance video.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,602 ✭✭✭✭ShawnRaven

To be fair, Priceless is strictly speaking, DiBiase's music. He was using it while Rhodes was still face while Rhodes was using some generic babyface theme.

Compared to Evolution though, if HHH and Orton came down to do a beatdown, or Batista and Flair, they would always be referred to as Evolution, not the individuals names.

C'mon folks, it's really not that confusing.

Sorry I don't understand the question.

    Okay recap
It didn't bother me what jr called pricless/legacy. It bothered jolt ,
then ortonviper asked what else should jr call them
so i said priceless, as thats whats on their titantron and music and i assumed confusion between priceless/legacy could stem from the entrance video and music

You said it wan't confusing - so i said jolt seemed not to be so sure

Then you asked the above question. Then i started expalining loads of useless stuff that became confusing!

Anyhow it was good to see teddy long back on smackdown, i like teddy. felt that grisham did okay too.

To be honest legacy is pretty daft too. At least priceless initially made sense as it was going to be di biase and rhodes cathphrase.

Legacy is meant to refer the groups 2nd 3rd generation status, but they are supposed to diregard their dads as they consider themselves better. Legacy is Something handed down, as they consider themselves better than their dads i am unsure what was handed down to them.

Their positions in the business. The characters they portray are of three spoilt little bastards who got everything handed to them, their spots in the business, their titles, the lot just because they were born into the business.

And they'll rub it in everyone elses faces.
Makes a f*ckload of sense to me. :)

I still think DiBiase and Rhodes need a proper character besides we follow Orton mindlessly and regularly get the hell beat out of us for it. The have yet to show any real personality.
