    Hi all,

Hopefully there are some IT wiz's here that will help me out. The betowrk adapters have all failed on my packard bell laptop. I have downloaded a driver update from the packard bell website but it didn't make any difference. its a ratlink modem 56k.
I've also tried to do a restore of my computer to a previous date. as far back as the computer will let me. That doesn;t work either for some reason. I've also tried disabling and re-enabling all the drivers individually and that didn't work. not sure what else to do and I don't want to give it in to PC world or whatever. Kind of want to fix it myself to learn about how to fix this sort of problem. anyway its really annoying so please help me?

    Cheers everyone.
    TL

    Hi TL

    A few questions to start
    1. What is the model of the laptop (there maybe some ppl on here that have the same one and have had the same problem)
    2. What is happening with it at the moment that you say it has failed.( Are you getting a dial tone if it's the 56k modem you are using)
    3. what OS is on the laptop i.e XP, vista windows 2000??

Resolved this. It turns out a virus was hibernating in the network adapters but it was very low risk and was not harming the laptop. I did a scan with Spyware doctor and instead of quarantine, the bloody thing decided to delete by network adapters so I couldn't see any network connections LAN or WAN. after trying to re-install them and running diagnostics and trying loads of system restores. I finally uploaded a new OS on it. that worked and the laptop is as good as new. it is a 6 year old laptop that had XP. now has vista and runs perfect. handy out. just very very annoying.
