Hi folks - hoping for a bit of help from you good people. Here's the story...

I'm having a problem booting up the laptop.

Tried starting it up, and it gets stuck on the windows screen (I'm using Vista by the way). It just keeps trying to load and won't move on and stays stuck on something similar to the below screenshot.

I've also tried starting in safe mode but it stops running after about five seconds and just hangs there on the below:

    \windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys

I've also tried booting from the CD and this won't seem to work either.

Someone suggested removing some memory and I did this but still no joy. I'm not very technically minded, but don't want to have to pay to get it fixed so I'd appreciate any help at all.

If windows if stopping on this file when loading its most likley corrupted and you need to repair it.
you say you tried a cd and it wont work either. have you tried removing the cd drive and putting it back in again? Have you checked the boot order in the bios? If not hit f2 when you reboot the notebook and get the splash screens before you see the windows loading screen, then check the boot options and move the cd drive to the top of the boot order if it isent already there. exit and save your changes and the cd should load if its still in the drive.
from here you can repair windows.

I'd a similar problem a few month back, but it was just past the boot screen. The
desktop would come up with no icons and take about 10 -15mins to finally start
to fill up and start working.

The problem was my AVG Firewall. It musta became corrupt
or something, so i uninstalled it, and reinstalled again, and worked ok. That's maybe not
gonna help you, but i just thought i'd share that with you.
