Had a party in my flat last week and discovered water had been spilt on my laptop the next day. Not knowing what to do I switched it on but not a lot happened - just a light came on, but not much sound and nothing on the screen. That was sunday, since then I have removed battery and mopped some droplets i found there.Ive been drying the laptop near a heater with screen open since. I tried to turn it on last night but nothing has happened except for the power light. When i unplug it the low battery light flashes........should I write this off now or should I bring it to a repair shop? Ive read that it might be okay once it dries fully.

    Any advice greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks

It sounds like it's fried alright. If ever a laptop, or anything electronic for that matter get's wet, DO NOT TRY TO TURN IT ON! Remove the battery/power and dry it off as much as possible, open the case as much as possible and leave it in a hot press for 3+days, only then try to power it on. And you might get lucky.
What laptop is it? How new was it? If it was relatively old, not worth much, it would probably be best to cut your losses.

    Thanks for that.
Its a Dell Inpiron and two years old. Its not a great laptop to be honest but it did the job. Dont really have the cash to buy another. Should I attempt to open it up?

    lol

if you supply more info about its current state we might help

generally speaking after a spillage the first thing to do is shut it down, and remove the battery and memory modules and leave it dry out for a good few hours

if you switch the damn thing on right after a spillage it is an excellent way to fry them sensitive IC's on the motherboard.

And forget taking to a repair shop, you can pick up a laptop like a XPS M1330 for less than 600e on the dell outlet, or get a cheapo one from Aldi for less than that

    on adverts ie ,a pentium 4 ,1.5ghz laptop,with dvdrom/cdrw is 150 euro,in perfect order, maybe battery would have a short life,30 mins,
for casual use no need to spend 600,i see irish websites selling new 1s 4 350euro,dual core, dvdrw ram, drive etc.
even a brokren, laptop, well you can sell the memory ,hd,powerunit ,on adverts ie ,sum1 that has a dell will buy it4 parts.

I was given an Inspiron laptop for the taking recently, a pint of beer was spilled over it in pub, (Worse than water because it corrodes the circuitry) I managed to pick up a replacement bottom casing with mainboard on EBay and got it going again. If you are unwilling to take the chance of repairing it yourself you could sell it for parts on Ebay as the plastics, screen, charger and many of other components would be fine. You can also remove the HDD and place it in a USB caddy to remove your personal information, it is hardly unlikely that this got damaged.
