Just joined a golf club....know nobody there...never in a club before. So I have some basic questions, someone might be good enough to answer.
Do I just stick my name on a timesheet and wit for others to join me at that time, or can I join others who have already booked places?
Is there timesheets for evry day or just weekends? Do I need spikes on my golf shoes?
As I said basic stuff but annoying when you don't know the answers and don't want to seem like a twat to members there.

Normally timesheets operate for weekend competitions and mabey for
a weekday comp during the summer months. I would say just stick you name down on an open slot and let a friendly twoball book in beside you.
Ask the secretary manager at your club who the friendly faces are likely to be. You will get to know people soon enough that play around the same time as you. If you can get a group of 6 or 7 people together that normally play around the same time you can run a little side bet competition which helps keep your interest on the many days when
things are not particularly going your way.

As far as shoes are concerned, get a pair with soft spikes. Most courses now dont allow metal spikes any longer.
