Jobseekers Allowance Question

    Hi,

    My query is this:

I have applied to return to full-time education this Autumn and due to a relocation of my place of work I will be returning to the family home for the summer months. Unfortunately my employers relocation has coincided with the end of the lease on my current rented accomodation... - I was planning on commuting to work for the summer months from the family home anyway to save some extra money and now I'm faced with no option but to hand in my notice. A commute to the new destination is impossible, also the extra hassle of moving stuff to another rented accomodation plus deposit rigmarole, crossovers, and the added costs of the move are just not worth it for under 3 months of work.

So, for those summer months can I apply for job seekers allowance? (technically my employer let me down by extremely short notice.., also my college application could potentially fall through - not likely but anything is possible.!) I haven't signed on before and have been in employment for over a decade to date, I think three months remuneration from the taxes I've paid are not too much to ask.. or is that wishful thinking?

Well, you should apply. You're leaving the job because the relocation was not feasible for you.

Which I believe entitles the OP to redundancy if they have been with the company 2+ years. Another avenue to investigate. (can't find the relevant info atm)

Thanks for the comments peops! I also thought about redundancy and if my situation was applicable... At the moment I am living close to my job and still within reach of where they are soon relocating to, it only becomes impossible at a later date because I have made irreversible arrangements to move back to my family home before the notice given concerning the move.

So, what do you think I should do? Discuss it with HR perhaps?

    Thanks again

    ;)
