now if i go to connect there's spark...so it's wrong both way rounds now, ignition comes on straight away without the key....I think there was a slight burning smell, had the car started for less than a minute....first time in 2 years...

any idea what i've cooked? Power is opposites in the car...positive goes to negative when it's correct...

battery is correct in the picture...not my car, i can't connect the battery without a stick...tried another battery, same problem..

First off, stop connecting batteries to it. You'll just **** them all up.

Secondly, get an auto electrician in. You're putting yourself and your car at risk otherwise. I'm serious. The loom's more than likely already a write off, and putting juice into it will just lead to further damage, burns for you and a nice fire to finish off the car.

Thirdly, start pricing up a replacement loom, just so it's not too much of a shock (pardon the pun) when the auto sparks tells you how much of it needs replacement.

Tough luck on the problems, and hope you get it sorted without too much hassle and pain. Don't take shortcuts now though, it's just not worth it.

Oh, check your insurance cover is adequate too for fire damage or loss....

OK...the auto electrician is a good move for sure

Thinking about it logically, I think all you are likely to have damaged is anything that has to be negative earthed....like the radio perhaps(and the bit of loom going to it possibly), but if there was an arc from the body (live) to the loom (earth) when the battery was wrongly connected, it could have caused damage alomost anywhere and melted itself a permanent short circuit.

    A) those cars come in both positive and negative earth flavours.

    B) they only have two 35amp fuses IIRC, so a few things are probably unfused. Great for starting fires.

    C) Burning smells are baaaaaaaaad. Get someone who knows what they're doing to have a look at it.

Stick a dirty great sticker somewhere under the bonnet to say if it is negative or positive earth
