I have been looking at getting a New or nearly new landrover for some time now.
I have been into many of the main dealers trying to come up with a deal worth my while.
I dont know why, but they just dont seem to want to do a deal on a Jeep.
Looking at figures of sold vehicles from Jan09 till now they dont seem to be flying off the shelves.....so whats the reason???
Why are other dealers(of different brands) offering me resonable deals that i am happy with?
    Are Landrovers margins small?
Are they not under pressure to sell stock?
Has anyone got a opinion on this?
(looking at Defender Comercial Model BTW)

You're probably expecting too much of a deal to be honest. A commercial Defender will still be in high enough demand, recession or not.

What kind of deal are you hoping for? Model, specs, extras and price?

defenders are still a little bit sought after and still getting good money by all accounts,
whats are the specs you are after, and how much you excpecting to pay...

I'd agree with all of the above, but i also think your mental to go for a Defender, unless you are doing some serious off roading.

They are possibly the most uncomfortable vehicle i have ever driven. If it was for general road use, it wont be a nice place to be for the next few years you have it.

Like the others said, how much do you expect to pay for one?

I was with an insurance broker the other day who said she had a customer in the day before who paid €98k for a Range Rover last year and was being offered €30k-€32k on trade in this week.

If he got €25k cash he'd take it. Now that's a good deal.

The Defender is or might as well be a 4x4 body on a tractor chassis. Hideously uncomfortable as a passenger and pparently a nightmare to drive.

the new one withe six speed box are ok on the road. The td5 is so noisey at 120kph it's a joke. Also no ABS, and the direction control of a shopping trolley. otherwise a great truck with great road presence.

Go for a td5 model (pre 2007) unless you buy new, as the puma defenders have serious gearbox and drive train problems. At least if you buy new the warranty will cover the expense. The defender is a great work horse, I have a commercial 110 td5 and its been great so far. They are not cheap and off the main stealer every defender is expensive they hold there value though compared to the discovery. If you buy private, and they are plenty out there you should save quit a bit, just know what to look out for and if you dont bring someone with you that does. Buy a bad one and it will cost you a fortune.

Perhaps you have confused the Land Rover dealers?

You say you want a Defender but then you want a deal on a Jeep.

    bizzare :pac:

What spec are you looking for? What colour? Are you trading in? Are you buying new or used? I can see very little main LandRover dealers having second hand stock Defenders, as they usually sell easily privately, or the fact that alot of people buy them and run them into the ground.

Maybe, just maybe, the OP has a Jeep which he wishes to trade in. You think?

There are nicer spec defenders in the UK for a lot less money. The newer ones with the ford transit engine and 6spd gearbox have a bonnet bulge which makes them easy to spot. A mate had two TD5's and they were great craic to drive but very agricultural and very slow. They're heavy on juice too. Feel like they'd actually pull the front off your house.

I don't know about the new one but the TD5 had 3 seats in the front which makes them a bit more practical.

have always had a desire to buy a Defender...must be from growing up in Belfast and seeing their ability to with stand petrol bombs :D. But after having driven one I would never buy one. They are hideous to drive on tarmac and at motorway speeds you are flat out with a noise that is unbearable. Unless you are going off-road avoid

    Helpfull....thanx

Anyways...i just felt the dealers wernt that hungry for a deal, hence why i was asking about margins ect compared to other marques.
    Looking for 07-new
Im not expecting thousands off or anything...
There dose seem to be the belief that Defenders hold their price better than most...even in this forum, in the past this might be true, but at the moment Landrover are realy hurting from lack of sales , thats why i was suprised by their lack of interest in doing a deal.
The market is changing, time for the Landrover dealers in Rep Ireland to learn to pedal in a new gear, Charles Hurst in Belfast isnt a million miles away (and are a million times more efficent and hungry than dealers i was in contact with down here)
