I have had my Megane 98'classic for a couple of years now and have had problems with starting the car lately. I turn the ignition and get nothing at all while the car is warm/hot but it starts first time when cold.

I first came across the problem about a year ago when my car would not start and a A.A man re-earthed it and got it started stateing the problem to be a bad earth.

Everything was fine untill last week the problem came back. If i drive the car for 20 mins and pull over, then try and re-start it nothing happens untill the car is cold again.

    Please help if poss! Thanks

    Could be this: http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=10062&highlight=scenic+TDC

We had the exact same problem with our 00 scenic, 2 different mechanics couldn't figure it out, nothing showed up on their diagnostic equipment. I saw this thread on the renault forum, tried it out and never had any bother since. That was about a year and a half ago. Very easy job to do, I only had to remove the battery to get access to the TDC sensor. I just cleaned it with Isopropyl alcohol.

I second the TDC sensor cure.

I have took it out twice and cleaned it but to no success.

I have unpluged a cable and pluged it back in which is located at the back of the engine which resets the computer (Clock, etc) and it has worked in the past and did today after 3 attempts but i dont no if that was because the engine cooled down or it was the cable.

    Im now at a loss:(

It turned out to be the exciter wire that goes into the starter motor. It needed reclamping and i got the garage to give it a clean to. All working good now and only cost me £10 which was good.

Thats good news! Nice to hear that some fixes are still cheap. It's frustrating when trying to source the problem but satisfying when the cure is quick and cheap.
