Ive noticed a lot of magazines and newpspapers having commercial features in them, usually at the back. What does that mean exactly? Are they like paid-for articles or something?

yes - the company written about is either an advertiser too and the publication is keeping them happy or they've paid for one or a series of commercial features.

They're badly needed at the moment due to the slump in advertising
