Hi all, any help greatly appreciated!

I scanned a '98 1.6 petrol passat as it was having some trouble idling and starting. Anyway, the code it generated is
    "00515 Hall Sensor G40"
Looking online, it seems to point at the cam sensor although some pages I opened made reference to the coolant temp sensor. Also, G40 seems to refer to a timing discrepancy.

Can any VAG fanboy confirm this?!

    Thanks in advance:)

G40 is the wiring/component designation for the hall sender - not a fault code. 00515 is the fault code relating to the Camshaft position sensor, otherwise known as a hall sender. Cam sensors do give trouble. G62 refers to the coolant temperature sender, afaik.
