Latency and remote access

Does anyone know of a better solution than windows remote desktop for accessing a remote machine and actually using it for graphic manipulation?

I find that remote desktop causes Huge Lag when it goes above 50/60 ms - Is there a better way?

    Any ideas?

First things first, consider enabling QoS on your router to promote RDP traffic. That way, any data for your remote desktop session will get prioritised above any other traffic.

Another technology to consider is VNC - try RealVNC Free for a start. I find it slightly more responsive.

Surely graphic manipulation would be the last thing to try and do remotely. May I ask why you do this? Are you not able to run locally?

Thanks for your replies - I am afraid that using it locally is not an option. When I say graphic manipulation I dont mean photshop or anything like that but I will be loading 20/30 thumbnails in a picasso for example and moving the order of the thumbnails around.

I fond that remote desktop is badly affected by latency. I shall try VLC and see how I get on - any other suggestions keep them coming.

    Thanks

Tried realVNC - No real difference - still affected by Lag.

    Alternatives?

    Oh - also tried Logmein..

There's not much else you do, lag is lag, the electrical impulses can only travel so fast across the internet. Why can't you install locally?
