First time posting in this forum, just saw this online.

I can't see this new form of the game having a real impact tbh. Although it is an effort to revitalise the game and increase it's appeal to the masses, just reducing the number of reds and shortening the average frame time doesn't seem like it's going to make the ratings shoot upwards.

Terrible idea....It will just be glorified pool. The current 15-20 mins a frame is much better. This new format will basically allow you one chance to win a frame.

When I first read this thismorning I thaught it was a joke, but from deeper reading it is just an extra bit of "on-venue" entertainment for the fans both at the venue and viewing on the TV. It is something which hasn't been done of late at major tournaments.

In recent years a lot of the attractions that go along with a snooker venue have been removed eg. betting stands, merchandise shops, heritage room, crowd interaction etc.

When you get the likes of the world champion saying snooker is stale, it can't be ignored.

Remember it's only a trial, exploring some ideas. Snooker will always be a 15 red game!

The actual format of the World Championship will not change (15-red, best-of-19, best-of-25, etc.)
It will be trialled with a contest between a legends team and a rising star side at the Crucible event.

It sounds like a bit of craic actually. Old vs New.

At least World Snooker finally seem to be jazzing a couple of things up, I for one won't knock them for that.

Well it has been held thismorning and Tony Knowles (remember him, the guy who knocked Steve Davis out in the 1st round 10-1 in 1982) has won it.

It doesnt look like the BBC are going to show much/any of it though. :(

    From WorldSnooker.com:

    Knowles Takes Super 6s Crown

Snooker legend Tony Knowles enjoyed another great day at the Crucible as he won the inaugural Snooker Super 6s tournament, while Scottish youngster Ross Muir won Junior Pot Black.

Knowles, the 53-year-old from Bolton, scored arguably the biggest shock in Crucible history back in 1982 when he beat defending champion Steve Davis 10-1 in the first round.

The former Professional Players champion was back at the famous venue today, scoring wins over Dennis Taylor and Neal Foulds to reach the final of the Super 6s; a one frame knockout event using six reds rather than the usual 15.

The other half of the draw was Junior Pot Black, and 13-year-old Muir, from Musselburgh, beat Josh Boileau and Gary Johnson, then edged out Welshman Jak Jones on the pink to win the title. However, Knowles denied him the Super 6s crown courtesy of breaks of 21 and 27.

Muir, the Scottish under-14 champion who has a top break of 142, said: "It was very nerve-racking, playing in the Crucible Theatre was totally different to what I expected. I thought there would be more space, but everything is so close together.

"It's every snooker player's dream to play here. There were some very good players in Junior Pot Black so I'm really happy to win. It was my first appearance on TV and I'm pleased with the way I played.

"When I go back to Scotland and play in the junior tournaments there, I will find it easier to cope with the pressure, having played at the top venue. This makes me want to practise harder and strive for more."

Muir, who names his favourite player as John Higgins and practises at the Angle Club in Morningside near Edinburgh, added: "My schooling comes first, but once I've finished my homework I go straight to the club and play for as long as I can."

    Snooker Super 6s Frame scores.

    Semi-finals
    Ross Muir 24-13 Jak Jones
    Tony Knowles 37-16 Neal Foulds

    Final
    Knowles 52-18 Muir

Celtic, most of the attractions are still there at the venues, i was at two this year, the masters and the welsh and the bookies are still on site along with the shops for buying all the snooker souveniers add to that the cue doctors like john parris selling his handmade cues etc.

At the worlds this year the WSA have again got the cue zone and snooker historian Roger Lee has his fantastic snooker memorbillia and heritage stand, well worth a visit if anyone gets a chance to visit the crucible.

Agreed o sullivan has said that snooker has gone stale but really should we all agree what ronnie says!!

When it looked like snooker was hitting a low along come a host of sponsors especially Maplin at the uk championships and now Bet Fred for the next four years at the worlds, add that to the other sponsors and there is now a sponsor at all the ranking events.

As for the six ball it's only a sideshow event, the tour already has had one in thailand for the last two years which has proved very popular with tv ,audiences, last year hendry, white, doherty, williams, ronnie and higgins played in it. Rest assured the six ball won't be replacing the 22 ball game of snooker, it's just a sideshow event to keep the crowds and sponsors happy.

I think the game is healthy enough at the moment, better than it was 3/4 years ago, even during a recession the WSA have still managed to pull in the sponsors, now don't think for a minute that i am singing the praises of the WSA, they nearly ruined the sport, believe me it was on the brink of collapse 4 years ago, but by bringing the game and 3 events back to china and now one in bahrain it has gained momentum, just a pity they won't look this way and hold another in ireland.

    PS,
heard an interesting rumour off a mate who is involved in the game regarding Clive Everton, going to post it on the Clive Everton thread.

No I d'ont think it will work. It may increase the chances of lower ranked players doing better ( more chance of winning frames ), but the lesser amount of balls is more suited to pool.
