I signed up to Sky last year using the refer a friend offer. No cheque arrived for me although the existing Sky customer got theirs, so I rang up after a while to see what the story is. Supposedly the guy was going to call back but never did. I rang up again today to be told "Oh you're not entitled to that. It says here you took a free Sky+ box instead. We have it here in our records, it must be right."

Grrrrrr - the problem is this isn't right at all. I wasn't given a choice between one or the other - as far as my recollection goes I was offered and got both. "Well it says here on our system that you took the choice for the free Sky+ box. You can't get both, just one or the other." Why on earth would I go for a free Sky+ box ('worth' €49) when I could have got a cheque for €75 instead ?

I had a look at the "Refer a friend" page and it says you can't combine offers, but then goes on to give an offer of a discounted Sky+ box. Go figure.

Does anyone know what my options here are in terms of getting that cheque ? I accept that Sky have the upper hand here since their call centre agents can happily switch into 'talk to the hand' mode while I rant on and on at them and they will still end up saying that they're not giving me a cheque.

At risk of stretching this post a little - I was also on to them following up on another payment which was due for a referral in early February. All the person could say was that the cheque hadn't been issued, there are some delays, and she would send an email. I mean, they don't seem to suffer frmo delays in sending out invoices or collecting direct debits do they ? She couldn't provide any insight into why the cheque hadn't issued yet, how long the delay might be, she couldn't give me a call reference to follow up on next time, etc . . . classic call centre shenanigans. Next time I ring up because the cheque still hasn't arrived I will have to go through the whole thing from the top and still only end up with "I'll send them an email"

Now, I feel better having got that one off . . . :o

Man, they are a mess. But you need to stop ringing them, and put it in writing to them.
Inform them that if they don't pay up, you'll bring them to the small claims court and that you have a media contact who writes a comsumer rights article in a national paper that is keen to do a write up on this ripp off.
    Go for it.
