1)I rang an insurance company for a quote the nice lady said bare with me a moment and i'll get you a quote. That took about 30 seconds

2)I went into an electrical store looking for a specific radio it was not on the shopfloor so the sales lad said he'd look around the back to see if there was 1 lying about he said he'd be a moment,6 solid minutes later he came out and said no

3)I rang 11811 looking for a takeaway number and the lady said one moment please,2 seconds i get the recorded message giving me the number

So basically How long is a moment?it seems to vary or is there any specific timeframe which is considered to be a moment???

surely it would be better for them to say i'll be a few seconds or it'll take about 6minutes to find it so i have a rough idea as to how long i'll have to wait?

I say in order of length of time starting from shortest (prefixing 'just' is when I am trying to be formal) 'just a moment', 'hold on a sec'...'just a minute' then 'ah gie us a few minutes will ya, ya impatient prick'. After that it may be from sometime to a while.

Well, I personally think that people should be taken to task when they say 'I'll be back in a sec'. This is a clear notion of time i.e. 1 second.

Often this '1 sec' can last for minutes!

I should start issuing fines to people who lie to me

If its an Irish Standard Time moment, then as long as required by the other party.

The length of a moment in seconds is directly proportional to the time of day and the day of the week , the value of the item or info you require, multiplied by the (IQ-1)/(mood of the person telling you to wait a moment) minus the square root of how much time you can afford to spend waiting.

it's subjective based completely on one's mindset.

in a computer game, a player respawns is 3 seconds..
in the bible, jesus respawns in 3 days..

both of these could be classified as "i'll be back in a moment".

Give me one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
    When all of my dreams
    Are a heart beat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
    When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel, I will feel eternity

Its either the length of a heartbeat or an eternity I guess
