Question about The Wrestler

I know there was a thread about this movie but looks to have been dead for a while, didn’t want to bump it, just been wondering about something -

Outside of WWE and TNA, I’ve no insight into the modern day Indy wrestling scene, I was wondering if any of the guys that appeared in The Wrestler are benefiting from the popularity of it all?. Vince certainly changed his initial tune on the film, reporting unhappy about the aspects of the industry it used but then mentioning Mickey Rourke after the Oscar buzz every chance he got (I reckon he would have pulled an Arquette and handed him a title if Rourke had been up for it! :)), any chance of one of the guys used in the film getting a chance in the big leagues? (Necro Butcher doesn’t look to fit in with the current PG way of life in WWE…)

Well I'm pretty sure ROH are happy with their publicity with it, especially as they were pushing for ROH TV with it around the time of it's release.

They built a title fued that just ended with
Jerry Lynn winning portraying a similar role to Randy
around the idea of the Wrestler

In short, no, I haven't seen any evidence that guys like Necro have benefitted from their roles aoart from the payday and getting mentioned onn the Oscar broadcast. It hasn't opened up the door to any extra bookings anyway, sadly.
If they were going to do a Randy the ram storyline, it should've been Necro in the Jerry Lynn role in ROH winning the title, hes a far far more sympathetic character, way more believable in the beat-up veteran role and WAY more over.

WWE certainly aren’t exploiting Ron Killing’s contribution to the movie.
Hardly surprising considering that contribution mostly consisted of pulling Rourke off the wagon and dragging him out on the pi$$! :D
