I was just wondering as I'm living in the US right now and they make a big hooplah over whether they should change the currently system or not.

So can openly homosexual men/women serve in the Irish army? How about the British? (Is the US's position unique or standard?)

    Regards.

The Employment Equality Act, 1998 defines discrimination as the treatment of one person in a less favourable way than another person is, has been or would be treated. The Act outlaws discrimination on nine (9) distinct grounds: gender, marital status, family status, sexual orientation, religious belief, age, disability, race and membership of the traveler community.

Section 4, Para. 119, Defence Forces Policy on Interpersonal Relationships in the Defence Forces

You can be gay in the British army and its been like that since the late 90's as far as I recall.

When it was introduced if you declared yourself gay you were offered surplus married accommodation if available. Trouble was that with the state of soldier accommodation at the time 75% of my unit "declared" and a investigation was launched.

So the US's position is out of variance with the "Western" world then?

LOL I can imagine them walking up to the officer looking for better accommodation, effeminate hips swinging side to side waving his right hand down..."HEY SOLDIER"
