I received a letter dated 2 days ago, that my Jobseeker's Allowance has been approved and that I would be getting a cheque @ 06 April(which was 2 days ago,) and that arrears would be paid shortly.

But funny I got that letter 2day, but no cheque even though they were both dated at 2 days ago and I assume would have left the same office, but maybe the Cheque will come in the next few days. When I was getting Jobseeker's Benefit it went to my Bank Account, can Jobseeker's Allowance not go to my Bank Account as well does any-one know ......

And also it said something to the effect of to contact my local office if I'm not aware of my Signing arrangements, but how can I be aware of them when I've never got Jobseeker's Allowance before?! To date I have been getting the green slip to sign and date and post or drop back to my local office. Is it necessary to go into your office to sign on every week I wonder or will they keep up the Slip format ......

    hey,

sorry cant help with an answer but just got one question for you.

After you handed in the paperwork for your JSA application, did u just have to wait until they contacted you via the mail.

I handed in all my paperwork on March 19th and havent heard a word since!

    Is this normal??

    Any advice would be great

    Thanks

    Mike

Do they have your Bank details? When you filled out the paperwork they normally ask do you want payment into the Bank or Post office. If you received the letter Monday 6th your payment should have been in ur account today Thursday.

They don't pay into bank accounts anymore. You have to collect it at the PO.

Well I myself find the dole very confusing too.

I recently signed onto job seekers (7 weeks ago) and havent heard anything since. Whats the usual way it works. You just sit around and wait to get a letter?

I went to the HSE a few days ago to get emergancy pay as I have bills ot pay and its getting increasingly hard to find a job.

I have been out of a job since december and only signed on 7 weeks ago. The lady said I could back date if I wanted too to my last day I worked. Which I did. She said it's not 100% certain you will get this. When do I find out I will get it?

Would be great if anyone can gimme some answers :)

And please keep the "I dont know I work for a living" comments out of it because I have never claimed before when I had about 50 chances too, only reason I am right now is because I have no choice. It's either that or starve.

    Thanks!

And this is where I get confused...because some people are talking about money being collected in the post office, and others are talking about receiving a cheque in the post.

My understanding, from an Unemployment Allowance point of view, is that I will receive 2 pieces of correspondence:

{a} informing me of an impending visit from a means-tester

{b} informing me of the success/failure of my claim.

In the event that my claim is successful, I expect the second letter will outline the time and date to collect my back-pay and further payments at the Post Office.

If I am misgiven in any of this I would gratefully accept being corrected.

I wouldn't hold my breath on having it backdated to december, i was let go last august (feckin hell, that's a long time now) and didn't sign on till october, and got the same spiel in the welfare office, then I found out later that their new policy is to only pay from the date you sign on

Yes- as a general rule the opinion of the dole is that the onus is on the unemployed person to get down to the dole office.

In fairness, I agree with them.

I have been turned down for back payment in the past. They really want you you to go to them first. As I say, I agree with them- while going to the dole can be an inconvenience, the truth is that it can usually be managed within a couple weeks.

Anything else is pushing it a bit.

Sorry to be harsh. I have been on the receiving end myself.
