The famous budget has come and gone, and has left many of us having to re write their budget and curb their spending.. alot of us have been left high and dry..
Are there any of us that have been left unable to buy an important gift for a loved one as a result of the financial re-adjustments that have now been imposed upon us?? Most people I assume

I hate buying greeting cards anyway, like to make my own. Much more personal.

You can save your money for a gift, or any other frivolous purchase. I usually have to..

I couldn't afford to buy it before the budget, I'm sick of being poor :(

It's the lack of a job that's gettin to me most. Buyin gifts is a bit hard without a job, never mind with this budget yoke.

ok, is there someone that you really need to get a present or gift for, and due to the recession / budget, are badly stuck... I have been in this position too many times... I may be able to explain a bit better if I get some more feedback

Just do what i do. Cut off all contact with the person for a week and a half before the time you're expceted to give them the present (birthday, etc.) and dont talk to them at all til a week after.

When you talk to them again, they'll be so curious to where you went that they'll forget about it.

Who cares about the price. Surely it's the thought that counts?

I'll have to cut down on the amount of monkeys I buy for people.

No doubt about it... these are dark times.

Have you tried to buy fudge lately?
    Bad times indeed.

All I can afford are multi packs of Fingers of Fudge.

Ah, it's bad when that's all you can afford to treat your kids.

OP which newspaper/radio station do you work for? I can imagine hearing this on the radio tomorrow. "Surveyed people said they can't afford gifts for love ones due to budget".

Anyway, gifts for OH is easy. Paper, some marks, glitter (if OH is a she) and glue. 1 hour of 'Gummy Love', followed by 'Relaxation cuddles and hugs' requires more effort then buying some toss from a gift shop.

The only "important" gift is the gift of sight......Go to Living TV channel 112, wait for the ads and get instructions on how to donate.

Otherwise just buy them a jumper. A jumper is always a sh1t gift so no one considers how thoughtless it is,just how shyte it is.

Ya can give them the greatest gift on this planet.....and its free...... Singleness!!:D

ok, I am an artist, and I have quite a collection of paintings built up (due to the downturn). My plan is to come on to boards.ie once every few months, and make a 'donation' to society by giving away one of my pieces to someone that really needs a present for someone, and is strapped for €€. I am well enough known. I suppose its my way of paying tax:) If you are this person, PM me, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.. and no, this is not a scam... its better that my artwork is hanging on someones wall where it would be appreciated, than gathering dust in my studio

I'm so broke I've had to quit drinking. Those 12 cans after work every day made a big difference to me. My little gift to myself :(

It was my BF bday on monday 6th
I was hoping to buy him something big n shiny - so I could get a best girlfriend in the world smile off him
I got him some other stuff instead - that I know he likes but didnt get the 'smile' off him
I couldnt afford the shiny new stuff - though it was pricey. The smile off him is worth more than the money I would have paid

Think that's bad OP? I've had the same jocks on for 3 weeks.:(

Only present he ever wanted was to see you 'smile' like a doughnut, tbh.

Can we see some examples of your work?

I'd hate to send a begging letter, only to find I was begging for a painting of a bowl of fruit.
