Can I swap viewing cards between boxes?

I have a Sky+ box and a Sky box. I have a viewing card in both.

Can I swap these around if I like? Obviously I won't get to use the Sky+ features in the SKy box but should it all work?

    Thanks

Only non Premium channels will work and you will loose Sky+ abilities by using non sky+ card in that box.

You can if u want to, not 2 sure why ud want to but heres what would happen

    1. All standard channels would be viewable on both boxes

    2. You'd lose the recording facilaties on the standard box and sky plus box as a result.

3.You'd lose playback facilites on sky + box

    4. You'd lose any of the premium channels on both boxes if u sub to them

    these include

    Movies and sports

    5. Only advantage would be if u had setanta sports u would be able to watch it on other box instead..

    6. Also there is a possibility of eventually damaging card reader or card if continous swapping was to take place...

    hope that helps.

No. Cards are matched with their receiver, they are not interchangeable.

What I can't understand is why you didn't just try it, if the boxes are near each other.

Sky cards are interchangeable and the results are as my previous posts.

UPC-Chorus and Ntl cards are interchangeable.

UPC cards are box specific, They contain matched Box keys and a RSA key.

say if I want to have a sky box in the bedroom and one in the kitchen but only one subscription as i'd only watch one at a time. Is it possible to have one card for two boxes??

    Hi,

Just get a video sender and bring the sky remote to bed when you want! You can operate your Sky + box this way from your bedroom.

Oh sorry I meant to add that I'd like to watch premium in one room and have FTA in the other. Then if I want say, Sky1 in the other room I just take in the card and bring the premium channels with me?

Why wouldn't you just run a cable from the downstairs box and use a Magic Eye/ Sky Link to control it, that is by far the cheapest easiest option.

Also, if you use a non Sky receiver with a CAM cabaple of decoding Sky, you can program in the original Sky boxes serial number so you can actually use the one card in both locations with the full channel packages (just not at the same time!).

Sorry i've been so long coming back to this thread.

Basically i want to sub to setanta but it's sub is on a per card basis. I'm not paying for 2 subs.

I'd like the option of bringing the card with setanta on it and using it in the other box from time to time.

From what your saying this should all work out for me?

Your not supposed to be be able to view Premium channels on a separate Receiver but it is possible, I know of receiver's that can currently do it - I'm not alllowed to speak about how its done though (which I fully respect).

Alll in all is that you can view basic channels on another sky receiver but if you subscribed to premium channels (ie sports/ movies) - you wont be able to view them on the other box.

    Hope that helps

the setanta channels will work on the card in any sky box,but the premium channels, i.e sky sports and movies, won't. unless what manc-red said above
