...in a country with 2k/p.a. tax, it's extremely unlikely anyone will be ordering any of them..........

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

True true! but I've always found the people who drive these types of cars have more money than sense! (in a nice way!)

    I reckon they'll get it in under 225g co2.

Ford managed it with a much older style engine in the RS (Volvo T5 engine), so I think Audi will have it in the 1k tax bracket.

Mazda got the new 3 MPS in at 221! clever clever!

This RS3 is never going to happen... big story and then half way down "er we probably won't see this until 2012"... Dunno why they keep writing about it.

There really are some Mazda 3 obsessed poster on this forum......how could you possibly choose one over an RS?

The Audi is for a different type of customer altogether, for me it comes down to Focus RS vs Megane R26R and although the Megane is fugly and french I love it!

The RS3 ruins itself by looking like an estate, as all the four door Audi A3's do, with that back window - should have restricted it to 3 door imo, A3 looks so much nicer as a 3 door.

Focus RS costs £25000 and the new Audi £35000. The RS3 would actually want and need to be a whole lot better.

Up until very recently you could only get an RS4 & RS6 in an estate........

i knew about the RS6, but i though RS4's have been saloons for years now. Anyway, that is different imo - as they would be actual estates. If i wanted an estate, i would buy one, not a four door hatch that just looks like one. I just think the 4 door A3's look weird given their size, while looking like an estate, and it makes them look quite boring - i do like the 3 door versions though.

£35000.... I'd buy an Evo X FQ-360. Some people aren't into the Jap Cars though. in that case I would take the Focus anyday

Focus RS? you'd be mad! and yes it'll be cheaper the the RS3 but if your going bang for buck on a new hot hatch, its gotta be the Mazda 3 MPS!

Thats all well and good, but in my head, Mazda 3 MPS just doesnt have the same ring as Ford Focus RS..

If you told someone you drove a Mazda 3 MPS, most would be like, "oh, the diesel one? Whats that like?"

But if you told someone you drove a Focus RS, they'd be like "Jesus! Can i have a go?"

Its an instantly recognisable name. Along the lines of GTI, or RS3.

Dont get me wrong stealthyspeeder, the Mazda is a great car for what it is, but i would take a Focus RS over one anyday of the week.

Hot hatches never really took off here, not to the extent they did in the UK anyway. Blame VRT that historically pulverised big-engined cars. Also, I think Irish people would prefer a little lass dash and a little more flash - something like a Hyudai Coupe:rolleyes:.

Very few people I know would get moist buttocks at the prospect of driving a Focus RS or know what it is. To most people it will look like a 1.4/1.6 with an RS body kit. For example I know of two 1.9 TDi Golfs near me 'done-up' to look like GTis. One even has the genuine VW 18'' alloys. Having said that I think the Golf GTi is the one most people would have some knowledge of.

Also, there's a lot of propoganda in the UK press about how brilliant anything with a Ford badge is, it doesn't always ring true. Maybe it's just me - I'd be a potential Golf GTI owner but I wouldn't even consider a Focus.

Fast Fords are just a bit chav for my tastes...

Both the current and original RS6 were launched as estates, but saloon versions followed shortly afterwards.

I'd agree with you on that one, if I was possessed with the spirit of more money than sense I would potentially buy a GTI, actually I wouldn't ever buy a new one 40K for a golf is just wrong, there will always be a few rich kids that would run out and buy something like an RS3, as was mentioned earlier, I don't think we'll be seeing a real one of those anytime soon.

I would also consider the Ford, but I'd have to weigh up the Chavness factor and see if I could live with it, but the Mazda 3 Mps, I'm sorry just isn't at the races, other than the top trumps Bhp figure it is far inferior in every other way to the others, I'd be in an Astra OPC or a Megane before the Mazda.

Function should come ahead of form in the decision making process, but form has to come into it and the Mazda just looks zzzzzzzzzzz.

you can't compare like for like....the RS3 is £7k more so you'd expect a lot more for that
