interrailing question..

    hey,
    im planning on going interrailing this summer through eastern europe and was wondering is there any way of finding out train timetables before i go?? or at least getting a general idea of how frequently trains go between cities in different countries..

    any help would be great!!

    Hey,

    Thomas Cook publish the European Rail Timetable every 6 months. I went interrailing and last year and it was invaluable. It can look a bit complicated at first but give the instructions a read through and you should be able to get the hang of it quickly. I got it in Hughes & Hughes I think but most big book shops will stock it. It was around €20 but I was on itunes the other day and saw an app version of it I'm not sure how good it would be but its worth a look if you have an itouch or iphone.

    Hey, bahn.de have basically every route! It's in German but just change it into English, great website!! Raileurope.co.uk is another one and gives fares too(for the next 2 months) if you decide to not get the interrailing ticket, I'm doing Eastern Europe and decided to just get a few trains cause was able to get pretty cheap internal flights and gonna get the odd bus short distance!!

    + 1 on the bahn.de - it's a fantastic site. You can literally get the traintime tables from Killarney to Vladivostok!
    If you're in Germany there will be a DB travel agent in most train stations - who will gladly give you a million permatations and options with the best prices for travel. Same goes for Austria - I've never really used the train in other countries, so cannot comment!

    ya anther +1 for bahn.de its unreal. make sure you check to see that the train is covered by your interrail ticket, some high speed trains will require an extra charge.
