Holiday in Portugal and Sky Digital

Renting a villa in Portugal next week which has Sky. I have an old UK card that I bought years ago before you could get UTV through other channels that I plan to bring with me - just to see what channels I get.

My question is - If I bring one of my full subscription cards with me will I be able to get Sky Sports or will the box/card pairing be an issue?

(Wanna watch the Leinster game without having to drag the kids to the pub:o).

    Thanks,

Your card will work fine for non-premium channels but sports and movies won't work because of pairing. You could bring your own box and you'd be fine. Just make sure before you go that the villa has a dish and not one of the local deflectors.

Ok - Then I should be able to get the highlights programme on RTE2 at 7.30PM with my 'full subscription' card?

Yes as long as your villas dish can pick up astra 2D which is hit and miss in portugal. I'd take the card with you and try your luck.

The old UK card only adds C5. The rest of UK terrestrials work without it.

Dish size is the issue. Some channels will be weak and others normal strength.

I was in an Apt last year in the Algarve and brought my Sky card (with full sub), it worked for RTE channels BUT the signal was weak so it was breaking up a bit.
The movies and sports premium channels did not work due to pairing mentioned above

Text the box details to a friend back in ireland and temporarally pair the card.
Get him or her to call sky.Your box is being repaired don't you know...
It's as simple as that to have all the channells working including sky sports..
Leave the box on with your card in it overnight or while you are out for the day but usually it only takes an hour at the most and often just a few minutes for the switch on to happen.

Change it back when you get home.

As your on holidays would it not be better to get out and about and for the matches go to a bar and watch tem instead of all the hassle?

I always have to laugh at the amount of relatives i have who come over to my villa in Spain and all they want to do is sit in at the living room watching tv, they might as well be back in Ireland
