    Curious more than anything...

Purchased an '06 vehicle from local garage in Oct. 08. It came with 12 months engine/gearbox warranty. Garage closed up this week.

Now, I don't expect any problems in that department but was wondering if I had, would there be any way the warranty could be honoured through SIMI or anything like that?

I'm sure there might be many people in similar position as more garages close.

Depends on if the warranty was a warranty from just the garage, independent warranty purchased by the garage on your behalf or an extened manufacturers warranty.

I wouldn't be holding out for the SIMI to do anything in this situation anyway OP. If the warranty was bought off a 3rd party like a warranty company and the garage was only a middleman in relation to the warranty only, then in the event of a major issue like you needing a new engine or gearbox, you might be lucky enough to be able to deal with another garage and have the warranty company deal with the bill, but be careful of this approach as there was another thread on here recently where a lad who bought a Mini for his wife went down this road and ended up with a mess on his hands.

Alternatively if you still have a manufacturers warranty on the vehicle thenm obviously you can take the same car to another dealer and have the problem resolved there under warranty.

Worst case scenario is if the car is out of warranty and the car sales outlet was providing the warranty directly, then your basically just another unsecured creditor, once of course you establish that the problem that you have, fell within the terms of your warranty agreement and when it comes to issues like clutch replacements, etc, you have an automatic problem (no pun intended!), because a lot of places will say the clutch failed due to driver abuse, etc.

I had this problem with White Bishop going under, my fiance bought a used car there only a week before they closed, we bought their as we thought they were a big respectable dealer, had seen same car for 500 less around the corner, but thought main dealer better than independent, and salesman pushed this fact, dodgy portacabin sales etc regret it now clearly! Any way here was Seats response..All I can say is a car is only as good as were you buy it from, how long will they be around.?.....

Thank you for your e-mail relating to your 2005 model seat Ibiza
All Seat vehicles are covered by a two year unlimited mileage manufacturers warranty. As your vehicle was purchased as a used vehicle from White Bishop Motors it would have been covered by the terms their own “garage warranty”. Unfortunately this will now not be recoverable as White Bishop has been forced to cease trading
However the manufacturers do operate a goodwill policy which is provided to help address issues which occur outside the normal warranty period and any Seat dealer can make an application to the manufacturer for help with repairs which are required outside warranty period. Decisions are based on age mileage and service record of vehicle
Above is attached a list of our Seat network for your information should you require to contact one in the future
