USB port not working/damaged....on hifi!

I have a Hitachi mini hi fi system with a usb port. I was fiddling around with it this morning trying to get a usb key to work with it. Now it won't read anything from any usb keys anymore, even ones that worked fine before. :o

Will I need to buy a whole new hifi or can the usb port be repaired/replaced? If the latter do I take it to a computer repair shop or a hi fi repair shop?

I'm really gutted about this so any advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi,

Try going to Device Manager and then reinstalling the USB driver.

  • but it's a hifi! There's no device manager!

Ah feck it! Silly me :P Unless anyone can come up with a better response, you should just take it to the shop where you bought the hi-fi itself. Have you looked up the problem through a search engine though? There are usually tech forums where this sort of stuff is talked about regularly.

  • Bought it off eBay 3 years ago. Did a search for "repair usb port" and got nothing. Any idea what I should search for? Where are these tech forums?

What I would do is look up the specific product code and then use words such as 'problem', 'USB port', etc, in order to find useful info. The product code is probably something like AXM60.

Thats a good idea..see if its an issue with that model.

Otherwise you may have damaged the port when you were "fiddling around" with it.

Did you change any settings or anything on the HiFi?

If the port is damaged I would bring it to a computer repair shop as opposed to a hifi shop..if the port needs replacing there's no difference between a hifi usb port and computer usb port..

The solder might have cracked, which is repairable, just grab a soldering iron and do it very carefully (don't link two channels by mistake).
