    Hi

Most places I fish recommend squid as bait, and I assume they are present and can be caught in Irish waters. Has anyone done this?
I used to catch them regularly in Australia so if I can catch them here as well …

    Thanks in advance
    Nick

The best time is in the summer and autumn off a pier with a light.
There are two species here, Ilex and Loligo.
Ilex are have an orange tint with a short fin at the end shaped like an arrowhead
Loligo have fins that run the full length of the bodyand are paler with reddish purple spots, and shorter tentacles loligo are also better eating. :)
