MG Midgets

    Hi all,

I grew up in a family where Italian/German = good, french = ok and anything else = bad.
So my memories of reports from people who I know knew about their cars on these old MG's is that they are underpowered slow, leaky and poor handling.

Now - being a realist and having had an Italian classic and the heart ache that goes with it I am thinking an old Midget might just be what I am after.

So - whats you guys opinions pls?

    Thanks
    Rob

Never fancied the Midget much compared to a nice MGB.

My brother had a lovely MGB but the roof was flappy and damp - a summer runner only.

    Chrome bumpers ftw!

I am lucky enough (or mad enough) to have an MGB and a Midget. The answer to your question really depends on what you want to use it for. If you're doing long trips - go for the MGB, if you are looking for something to drive around at weekends etc (particularly during the summer), I'd go for the Midget

I am over 6ft and have no real problem with the Midget - getting in and out requires a bit of flexibility, but once you are in, there's full leg room with a place to rest your left foot off the clutch.

The Midget is great fun to drive - the steering and response is surprisingly good - it is after all the car the MX 5 was inspired by. The more I drive this car, the more impressed I am with it.

I would go for the 1275 Mk III model - with round wheel arches if you can get one !

Parts are incredibly easy to come by and at reasonable prices - check out : http://www.mgocspares.co.uk/acatalog/sec_midget.html

There is also a bewildering array of tuning options for them with heads, cams, carbs etc etc.....

Maybe you can tell I like the MGs :) !
