    Hi,

I am wondering if anyone knows if you can take bikes onto the dart (obviously not during rush hour)??

I would like to go cycling in the Wicklow mountains over the Easter weekend, but I'm in Clontarf and have no way to get out there except by the Dart...

Any ideas/tips would be appreciated :)

(hope this is the right way to start a thread as its my first time  )

Try cycling! It's the fun way to get around that everyone's talking about!

yeah they won't let you during rush hour, i think howth jct is an unmanned station most of the time, but if you have the wheels off and the bike over your shoulder looking light and not space taking it should be fine. brought a MTB from perse to graystones once and they were ok but not glad about it,

You can't take bikes on the DART unfortunately. Cycling might be your best (only) bet if you don't have a car.

Actually, I believe you can't even take a bike on the Dublin-Gorey service (although you can on other intercity services, subject to availability, a fee and the usual Iarnród Éireann sh*te).

Take the wheels off, and wrap the lot in a strong black plastic bag - voila, it is no longer a bike, but luggage. Tried and tested train transportation method for those without folding bikes ;)

You can get some more information from Rail Users Ireland - apparently Dublin-Rosslare will be changed to use Intercity trains at some point this year, after which it will take bikes.

Ha ha I like it...I am half tempted to try it..but knowing my luck I'd not be able to get the rear wheel back on and that would just be too fustrating!!
