Hi all, anybody have any idea of about how much the damage in the passat in the pics attached should cost to get fixed(roughly) both my local panel beaters said around 700 atleast which i feel is excessive as the damage is only cosmetic,It Drives perfect and there is no internal damage I have been offered this car cheap from a friend of a friend in the car industry and besides the damage on the front its a smooth runner it would just need the usual bits and bobs to get it upto scratch for the nct wheel alignment etc...

700 is not to bad, you need a new wing, possibly a bonnet and headlight. There is different paint type used on the bumper compared to the wing. 2 days labour (max) and parts.

I'd agree, 700 isn't a bad price for all this. Looks like the foglight is gone too. At trade prices, this could be done for less than that I would *think* which begs the question why was it not done by the seller as it would probably make them a few quid...

i dont really mind putting some money into it as im getting it for about 3k (advertised at 4k on carzone),just thought i'd get you's guys view on the price for the damage, but when im going down to look again i think i'll find a mechanic to come down with me to make sure theres no hidden damage anywhere I thought it was a bit funny as to why a dealer wouldnt get the damage sorted first and make a few quid, guess i'll just add that to my growing list of q's for when i get down there

€700 is a slight rip-off. Bargain with them at €600 or less.

Many Panel Beaters feel they can charge whatever they like because they know people are in a hurry to repair their car.

    Heres some advice:

Buy the parts yourself because panel beaters do not have the time to shop around for the parts. You will save more this way.

You will need car paint, metal primer, plastic primer and lacquerer for the paintwork. These can be bought from auto shops (or online), whichever is cheaper. Shop around for all these.

(The bonnet looks like it can be repaired but the paintwork will definitely need touching up around the damaged area).

You should order the wing, the bumper and front headlamp from scrap yards/car dismantlers since they also sell them at cheaper prices. They may not sell the original Volkswagen bumper or wing, but sell spurious versions, both new and used. These are slightly lower in price than the Volkswagen brands because they are spurious. I previously bought from this car dismantler, who usually stocks these parts at reasonable prices. Heres the website: http://www.dempseysdismantlers.com/

Again, shop around for all these parts. There is a big price difference to be found around the country.
