What are peoples opinions on having a thread dedicated to discussion of technical automotive issues?

I personally, am a bit bored of the usual what tyre/VRT/which car/NCT threads and feel that there is a lot of technical knowledge here being wasted.

The thread would NOT be for people to post their technical problems with their car, but instead to propose an issue that they dont understand e.g. how does a differential work? or what is the best balanced engine configuration etc etc.

What y'all think? We could pool all our knowledge together and all learn stuff we didnt know before :)

Threads with multiple topics dont work at all on vBulletin (or similar). Horrible sprawling mess (like the Help Sell my Car or Importing VRT threads).
It would work in a threaded forum using something like Kawf, but not ideal (and Kawf is fairly ugly too).

You would be better off petitioning for a subforum for tech talk.

Good idea Mr. David, it might need constant weeding initially though to prevent, as you say, it turning into a "whats wrong with my car" thread.
