I have a skoda octavia 05 that need a service, timing belt done and 4 new tires the wife pug 407 needs a service 2 tires and timing belt done!!!

Got a quote from skoda here and it would be guts of 700 for the belt and service-contacted a garage (skoda) up north and it was only 300 for belt!!!

Would it be worth while tryin to negotiate some kind of deal due to the amount of work that needs to be done?

Can anybody suggest anybody up north?

How did the local dealership react when you told them how much the work would cost in the North?

well actually the lady in question was very cocky and expected that i was just gonna book in anyway. But i did not know the N.I. price at the time. Only went looking afterwards but even in indo guy was looking for 450 for each car to have belts done

I recently got my timing belt done in my Skoda. Down South the dealers prices ranged from €625-€725, up North, I got a quote for £326.30, from a main dealer. I called the main dealer down South and asked them to match the price, they came down €50. In the end I got it done by an independent for €330 all in. Happy days :)

Regardless of who does the job for you, make sure they replace tensioners with the timing belt, and water pump if appropriate (defo on the Skoda).

When comparing prices bear in mind that one guy could be quoting you for a timing belt change only, but another could be quoting you for belt, tensioners, water pump and service. Then factor in your time for going North (unless you have to go anyway). If it's still cheaper go for it.

Ring them back with the NI price and see what they can do.
