    Hows things,

Want to get back playing rugby next year after a 3 year absence. Can anyone tell me when pre-season starts? Also, was thinking of playing down in Clontarf, J3 kind of standard, any one know anything about this team, when they train etc?

Depends what age and what team. If it their senior. or junior or 2nds or 3rds team. Usually serious clubs start in August. Some do gym sessions in August.
Dont know much about Clontarf though

A lot of clubs stay in contact during the summer playing tipper and the likes. I'd imagine Clontarf are no different.

In my club I play J2 and there's no real pre-season! It all just kicks off usually around the beginning of September.

For a lot of clubs (including Tarf, I believe) this season is still going as their J2's are still in the cup....

J3 and J4 leagues start around the beginning of October so pre-season in most clubs would be 6-8 weeks before that.

Eat sh!t loads and do buckets of weights - that will stand to you more in the coalface of J3 rugby

If you are gonna try pile on weight during the summer, make sure you do at least 2 days of cardio a week. I put on a stone last summer from the gym but didnt do much cardio, and was slow as f*** when it came to season time. Its soooo much harder to get up to proper fitness if you weigh more.

Lookin to put on another stone this summer, but this time have already started my running.

how did you put on a stone then?

By doing a s***load of weights. Was going to the gym about 4 days a week. Low repetitions with heavy weights. I was doing 4 sets of 4 repetition per set. You need a spotter for that kind of stuff. I also did a different body part each day. Chest & back on day 1. Legs on day 2. Arms & shoulders on day 3. Lots of protein shakes as well. Also make sure you do the main power exercises such as bench press, squats, shoulder press, etc.
