Sky launch Remote Record app for iPhone

Sky has announced its new Sky+ Remote Record application is available on the Apple App Store. The application enables iPhone users with a Sky+ or Sky+HD set-top box to set recordings for a programme 'wherever they are in the world'.

The application gives customers access to Sky's seven-day Electronic Programme Guide (EPG), where they can browse listings by time, day or programme name, and then select programmes to record. Once a recording request has been sent to the customer's set-top box, a message appears on screen confirming that the show will be recorded.

Sky+ recordings can be set remotely either through the Sky+ Remote Record application or via a simple text message. Customers can also add recordings to their Sky+ planner via Sky's interactive online EPG.

Remote Record also works on Sky's recently launched online reminder service Never Miss, which scans TV listings and enables viewers to request email notifications when movies or TV series are about to be scheduled on TV. A link to is sent to viewers which enables them to remote record and integrate requests into their Sky+ or Sky+HD planners.

That's a nice touch. I can't wait to ditch UPC for Sky.

I can't find it on the app store, even after searching remote record and sky+.
Could anyone link it or confirm the name of it please.

It's called Sky+ but it's only available on the uk app store at the moment. So until Sky realise that they have customers in Ireland too, then we're out of luck.

You can get TV Plus from app store at the moment which does the whole remote record for Sky side. Fair enough it's not free (which presumably the Sky application would be) but well worth it IMO.

Why doesn't the regular one work on iPhones or am I missing something blindingly obvious ?

Anyone know how this app sends the info to the sky box (phone line or satellite)?
In other words, does one need the phone line connected to the box for this app to work?

Personally not sure how it works but I wont imagine it would require a landline connection..but Id be interested in knowing myself for sure as Ive never tried it..

it probably uses the same setup as the sky.com tv listings which also allow you to use remote record

does anyone know the email addresses of sky/apple people we would need to contact to make them hurry along and make this available to Irish customers?

I created a UK account in iTunes and downloaded the app but it wont sync to my ipod as it is "not compatible with this iPod"

It is a more general question. Remote Record is available for some Nokia phones. The questions still remains whether SKY have updated RR for Nokia E51. :)

It uses the Satellite to send the record request to your box. BUT to initially activate remote record on your box the box needs to dial out to a freephone number to fetch some configuration. After that initial set up the phone line is not needed for remote record functions.
