I remember lusting after one of those in the 80's. Times have changed and would not be too interested now...........................

I'd still love one. Remember seeing 2 advertised before for around 100k sterling about 7 years ago... I should have bought one!!! I knew it was an appreciating classic!

That's a decent price as the milage is relatively high for a 959. Saw one for sale in the flesh a couple of months ago in Germany, asking price was €400k which is a pretty average price for a low milage garage queen.

Simply stunning car. One of the all time greats.

First thing i thought was, "WOOOOOOOOOW, that is a good looking car."

A hell of a lot of money though, still, if i had money to burn, i'd happly spend it.

From a little facts book I have

"The Porsche 959 was based on the long running 911 and it became the fastest Porsche ever made*. Initially the idea had been to create a new four-wheel-drive car for Group B racing, and only 200 959's needed to be produced for the car to qualify. 1n 1981, a four-wheel-drive 911 had been exhibited then, in 1983, the 959 was launched - although none would actually be delivered unitl 1987. The car had a 2.8 litre flat-6 engine with the most powerful twinturbochargers ever* attached to a road car. Its output of 450 bhp could take it up to 197 mph and, along with four-wheel-drive it had many new features, such as adjustable ride height. Unfortunately, Group B was abnned in 1986, but the prototype won the Paris-Dakkar Rally in 1984 and a 959 won it in 1986"

*Book is about ten years old, lol.

I always had a thing for these, great looking car.

Either a typo in the book or your post. The car could do 197mph, not 167. Fastest production car in the world back in 1988, at that time the F40's 201mph wasn't officially proven. 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. The 959 is a very fast car by today's standards, nevermind 22 years ago!

Aye, mis print in the book. It has a table beside it with country of origin etc. and it says Top Speed 197mph. Merci, I'll change that.

Do indeed - we can't have one of the greatest Porsche's ever being done an injustice!! :D
Apparently one of the most impressive things about it was it's competence at delivering the speed. You didn't know how quick you were actually moving till you glanced down and saw triple figures indicated on the speedo!

Its seriously cool alright, but I reckon given the choice between that and an F40 - well, Maranello's finest would win out for me!

I honestly can't say I'd pick an F40 over it... Or maybe I would... Hmm

You could probably argue the VRT should be 0 as no one in Ireland could afford one now and so it has no market value.

    Splits?:P

Sorry pistonheads but hell no! Looks like a bad spoiler job to me (but what do I know).
Perhaps when I'm cruising for 18 year olds when I'm 50 myself.

Not much it would appear. Heathen. Shame on you. Pistonheads should ban your IP address.... Tsk tsk.

That car is quite simply one of the best things to come out of the 80's. If I could get a mortgage now, I'd buy it instead of a house. :D

Here's one I saw for sale in Germany a couple of years ago. Can't remember what the asking price was though :pac:

    Are you high or blind!?!

    I think it is you:pac:

    I would take a 959 over two F40s.

...LOL, methinks you're mixing up the pic's !! Your comment would go well with the F40.

Fine looking Italian kit car, in fairness......:p :p

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I know a lot of Alfa fans get a serious bulge in their nappies about the ZV but I just can't see it. I has never done anything for me, don't really like the look of it at all.

You mean the SZ?;) I'm not gone on the convertible, but I find the coupe strangely attractive. Almost all of Zagato's designs are strange but they do tend to grow on one, IMO at least.

Ah yes, the Ginetta GRS Tora. Very well spec'd, a 1725cc engine with overdrive makes for very comfortable cruising.
No sir, you won't go wrong with the GTS Tora!

Christ, that looks like a poor kit car copy of an Allegro Estate

Shame because Ginetta make some nice looking kits.

288 GTO was the 80's supercar for me, on the cover of the first car magazine I ever bought:)
