    Good night folks,
I recently purchased a second hand car from a smoker. anyway long story short i am going to fight it at the source of the odour rather than spraying oust, febreeze etc.
I'm looking for a place to purchase a really good shampoo for car seats and also rent a neumatic george to give it a good clean, steam and dry the seats.. Also based in Dublin and midlands Westmeath/longford so any places in these areas would be great! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also anyone who has experienced this problem before and has any alternative advice on how to get rid of the odour would be a huge help..!

    Regards
    B

Put baking soda in the ashtrays.

Yeah well I went through this myself, you actually answered your own question :-)
Steam and shampoo is the way to go.
But seats only is probably not enough, all fabrics and plastics in the car.

put baking soda on the seats and floors leave for half hour or so and hoover.
also onions cut in half deodorise paint smells, so may be worth a shot at throwing a few of these in overnight.

I had the same problem when I bought my current car. I got it valeted at a local garage and the smell disappeared, well worth every cent, they cleaned places I would never have considered like the boot and dividing shelf.

If looking for a good car valeter in the Westmeath / Longford area, I'd recommend Pat Higgins, Athlone Rd, Ballymahon. PM me for his number if interested. He does the valeting for most of the car dealers in that area.

Bloody great at removing pongs. Used it a few times when the young ones have been sick on carpet. Nothing else will remove the smell completely like baking soda. Febreeze etc. are a complete waste of time and money and just mask nasty odours with an equally offensive (imo) smell.

This is not a joke guys, but if you put coal in the car it soaks up the smell. No joke!!!!!!

Only way is to remove all the seats and clean them. Also do the carperts parcel shelf and headliner when seats are out. Had to do it myself and the stink went away, didn't use baking soda, but you'll need a sunny day to get everything dry before putting back in or else you can get a damp smell. Make sure and clean the windows, there be a lot of tar on them from the smoke.

The front seats should come out with a few bolts from the floor and back seats should have a few bolts holding them also.

Thanks for all the replys folks..
I've had bowls of vinegar strategically placed around the car the last few days which was supposed to absorb the smell like the baking soda but all it seems to do is mask the odour. - with a smell of leo burdocks!

So i think it best to valet the car myself if anyone new of a place to rent a neumatic george.? also need a shampoo with anti tobacco agent in it like vax. have tried a few motor shops and none have it.. yet to try halfords- if anyone knows where to purchase this also it would be great..

If i have no success in acquiring the above i'll just get it valeted. PS i'm new to boards so not sure how to pm you for that number. but i'll try..

    Thanks again..
