There are savings on certain building products and the best I can suggest re sourcing them is either the old yellow pages or google.

The main difference in the plumbing end of things is that their stuff is still in imperial sizing whereas as ours is metric. There is a difference though

Not wanting to benefit from others misery but keep an eye on some of the bigger public auction groups here in the north (wilsons and carryduff spring to mind). Obviously suppliers to the trade are having a tough time at the minute and a few have gone to the wall (a timber importer and supplier in Coleraine this week). Quite a bit of this stock can end up at auction. Apart from that corrys and murdochs are large all rounders - go with muffler yell.com is hard to beat

It's actually the other way round. We still use the imperial system. When you hear plumbers talk of "English Copper" they are actually talking metric surprisingly enough

Spoke to my plumber yesterday about buying all my bathroom fittings from the uk. He said that it is no problem because we can buy the metric connections here. He also said that most baths, showers etc that are sold in Ireland come from the uk anyway.

bought all my sanitaryware, kitchen , UFH in the north. Buiders yards here simply could not compete with northern prices. 320euro for a pallet of cement,or 225 stg in Derry
