Gonna get contacts, im sick of the glasses!
i have a valid prescription, and i know they might do a special contacts test, but what im wonderin is do ya have to buy the lenses of specsavers when they give you the sample lenses? like ya could get them cheaper elsewhere online!

any optician should give you a trial of contacts f.o.c. no matter where you go, it will be a week trial for daily lenses and a month for monthly lenses

FOC = free of charge. Specsavers will give you a 5 day supply of lenses and teach you how to use them. Then you go back for another appointment wearing the 5th pair and they'll check your eyes again. They won't offer you your prescription but if you ask for it they have to give it to you.

I never got a trial from specsavers,I would recommend going to a differnet optician for your contact lense test.
I had ine in specsavers,it was about 15 minutes and they gave me thier own brand lenses which were terrible!I did go back but didn't htink there was anyhting they could do.
I went to another optician nearer to work, they took nearly an housr and tried 2 different lenses to see which felt better then sent me home with a trial to see which was best.

you could buy where ever you want after you get your presciption but i would assume you have to pay for an eye test

No harm to be under the care of an experienced optician/ eye specialist for a while after you start using contacts for fear of eye infection etc.

I would hold off buying them online until things had settled down and you are fully accustomed to contact lense wear.

Aye i went this route myself too, and i'm pleased with the results so far after 5 months wear. About the prescription thing, i was given mine with the initial test, still have it put away safely so its not true that they wont give until you ask:)

    This was specsavers too.

Good stuff! How do the lenses compare to glasses? I svision the exact same or as good?
I have my prescription as well because i got tested at a different spot and brought it too specsavers for the 2for1 offer!

I went into specsavers on the bottom of grafton yesterday to get new lenses.
They said I needed to have another exam and wuould only give me 1 pair. I was thinking why the **** am i paying them for exams so often and paying over the odds for contacts.
So asked them for a copy of my prescription and she refused saying shes not giving it to me til i get my exam done.
Anyone know if i'm entitled to a copy? I'm getting fed up with specsavers after 5+ years of their bs.

Been wearing the dailies contacts since Nov '08 now and am very impressed by them:D My vision is much much better but i had an older prescription on my glasses that i STILL havent replaced lol, but amazing difference. I have astigmatism too so i'm gonna look into the monthlies real soon as i'm wearing them most days as it is...and it may work out cheaper too!:)

The lack of a glasses frame getting in the way is great, peripheral vision is pretty sweet haha, and me being a hurler just wont work out wearing glasses anymore...

Is your prescription out of date? I assume thats why you need another test?
To buy lenses online you'll need an up to date prescription anyway so maybe just get the test and then get the lenses elsewhere.

you can get the prescription written but theyl write out of date on it so nobodys gonna sell ya lenses anyways.
cl checks are to be done every year and 2 years for a sight test!

its for ur own good these tests!!!!

i went to specsavers too, i found their eye test good but their lenses didnt agree with me so i went back to my old opticians.
lenses can be expensive but usually monthlys are a lot cheaper than dailies and just as good, if not better imo

    June 2014.
I went to Specsavers for contact lense, well what an experience!!. I saw someone different each time I went. I was brought back 3 times. I was told how to put them in and take out by 3 different people, all said other way was wrong. I got my trail lenses, they were horrible could not see out of left eye, it was so blurred, left was +175 Right was +150, when I returned and said I was'nt happy, the lady said put the +150 in your left eye and you'll be grand !!.
I did there and then and said no it's still blurred. She said don't worry your eyes will adjust and 2 days on they had'nt. So I gave up on Specsavers and went to my local Optician and in one day they got my prescription perfect. The lense Specsavers gave me were also to big and irratated my eyes. I was shown properly how to put them in and take them out. The lenses are amazing and I would recommend them to anyone to try but go to your local Opticion.
The lady in Specsavers also tried to get me to take the dearest lense they had, she said you dont want that monthly rubbish.
    beware.
