What exactly was it he said?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,416 ✭✭✭FreeOSCAR

Something like "No King, Reys career is still alive and well" or something.
Bit bad taste by Jim but in fairness, the standard of commentary was pretty abyssmal all night at Mania. Shows you how hard it can be when its 3 instead of 2.

Fair play to him. Can't believe people still get upset by Heath Ledger jokes. Very un-PC and for that I commend the man.

Was that not in response to the fact that for the last two manias rey was plagued with injury?

King: "Rey's wearing a mask like that worn by Heath Ledger's character, The Joker"
JR: "Yeah, but Rey is certaintly alive and well here tonight."

Something along those lines anyway. And in my book any jokes about death are in very poor taste, celebrity or not.

I dont think it was actually a joke but JR probably should have avoided mentioning a recentley deceased celebrity's death if at all possible imo

I can remember the Eddie Guerrero thread after he died and plenty getting upset when jokes were made, and the same with the likes of Benoit etc.

I wonder would it have been the same reaction of the comment had tied in a dead wrestler rather than an actor.

Smacks of a cheap way to get some publicity to me.

JR is a dinosaur at best, once he was an excellent commentator, but those days are long gone.

Quoted for truth, although it doesn't help that he has nimrods like Michael Cole making him look better than he actually is.

Some people like to just make insensitive jokes. Just to get people riled up.

Slightly off topic but i remember throughout the whole Jade Goody thing there was a fansite on bebo that people would go and leave messages of sympathy and that, but there was a few ignorant teenagers that were so disrespectful making jokes and saying things like "I hope cancer is heradatory". Things just because they didnt like the person so they attacked her.

But i'm kinda shocked at why vince (im assuming he told him to say it) would tell Jr to say that.

Oh come on, i doubt he was having a laugh at Heath's expense. I'm sure it was just a comment he made that came out wrong or not as he expected.

Commentary was still terrible for the whole event though.

i was waiting to see who would be the first one to say that, and tbh im surprised the commentators didnt (would have been better than the "alive and well" jipe)

    kudos orestes! i laughed anyway!

Jim Ross has a new blog up at JRsBarBQ.com,

On his remarks related to Heath Ledger: Heath Ledger fans took me to task about my poor choice of words during Rey Mysterio's entrance at WM25 and for good reason. I had something else I wanted to say in reference to Rey's attire and I fumbled. My bad. My attempt to make a topically, funny remark came out wrong but it's on me. Sometimes on live TV things are said that one would like to have back but when one works without a net that's what occasionally happens. Nonetheless I am sorry for offending any of you with my remarks.

Pretty lame excuse in my view

That right there is good ol vinny mac's brilliant ability to pass the blame on to someone else.
Poor JR, got the brunt of it when it was obviously a stab he was told to say.

Possibly true, but you'd think after all his years of service JR could tell Vince to pi$$ off if he doesn’t want to say something that's in bad taste.

Either way, it's certainly hypocritical of them considering the lengths they go to, to not mention other deaths.

Mick Foley and Tazz would obviously beg to differ.

Yeah, they can join Heyman in the "bitter & disgruntled club", in the sense that it didn't bother them when Vince was sending them the paycheques.

Sorry, but Foley will never be forgiven for singing "Mambo #5" over the air.
