    Hi,
I'm thinking of changing my car and I was looking at a 2003 Toyota Avensis estate 2.0L petrol this morning for 9 grand (http://www.carzone.ie/search/Toyota/Avensis/2.0-AUTO/200914192385568/advert), the dealer is giving me a good price for my old car. I'm very interesting in going for the car, but it is a jap import. I was wondering is there anything that I need to take into consideration when buying a jap import car, for example I've heard over the years that its hard to get parts for them because garages don't want anything to do with non - irish cars.

    thanks in advance

This car would have been built in the UK. Not aware of the differences between the European and Japanese model Avensis, but bear in mind that a 2.0 petrol Avensis is saleproof at the best of times - even 2.0 Sol with the leather pack is hard to sell for as much as a basic 1.6 model. An automatic 2.0 petrol estate is such a bizzare combination and 9k is WAY too much for that car.

If you specifically need an automatic petrol estate then maybe consider it. but there are better options out there if you're paying that road tax and putting up with massive fuel consumption.

Thanks for the advice Colm_mcm, I have no idea about what the price should be, I did a quick search on carzone and the avensis estate ranges from 8.5k to 11.5K, so 9k seemed to be a reasonable price.
I don't partically need a petrol car, but i am looking for an automatic estate.... the search continues??

If it fits the bill then great, but the cheapest new shape Avensiss start at 5500, and an estate isn't exactly more desirable - it being a Jap import doesn't help matters either. the VRT on this car will be huge, and the Euro/Yen rate isn't favourable, so I'm not sure the dealer has much room to manouver on that price. that's not your problem though. I wouldn't pay over 6.5-6750 for it - and at that, it'd want to be fully serviced and with a proper warranty.
