    Hi,

Unfortunately, due to an impending relocation I have no other choice but to leave my current job quite soon & also quite unexpectedly. Luckily however, I had been planning my return to full-time education commencing this autumn so I can pack up and return to the family home for the summer months. This will have a financial impact on me but thems the breaks as they say!!

    My question is this:

Is it possible for me to claim any tax back once I leave and if so can I do so immediately or do I have to wait until year-end?

Many thanks for your help ;)

    J5

Why would you be allowed to claim your tax back after you leave your job?

Ok, put it like this: If I work for 5 months of the year and I'm unemployed for the remainder of that year am I entitled to claim any of the tax on that back?

Years ago you could get your tax free allowance back but I'm not sure.

Basically contact the tax office. At the end of the year if you have overpaid tax on your earnings you can claim it back any.

I know when friends went out on maternity leave they got come tax back at the end of the year.

Yes you can claim it back, assuming you've overpaid relative to your liability. What are you going to be doing in the meantime though? If you're going on the dole it's slightly different.

Yes, you can, assuming your income was about the threshold for paying tax.

If you're getting the dole, you need to wait eight weeks before sending the paperwork to Revenue. If not, you only need to wait four weeks.

Can't remember the name of the form, 'twas fairly easy to find on www.revenue.ie though.
