Hi - I'm looking to buy an Ifor Williams TT85 (tipper) trailer.

Has anyone gone to the bother of shipping an Ifor Williams trailer in from the UK?
Is there a saving to be made seeing as the pound has taken a battering?

If anyone has any links to UK firms that export to Ireland then please send them on. .they would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

I would think there would be a saving to be made. Ring a few ifor dealers in england and get prices for the trailer you want then add on, id say 200-400 pounds for haulage. Compare the prices to over here. How much is the trailer you want over here.I will help you as much as i can.

There is a saving to be made there. My dad imported one last year and made a saving, since then the sterling has gone down even further and therefore you should save even more.
Have you looked in NI as well?

    Cheers for the responses folks...

Cormywormy, I've priced some dealers in UK - the price for the particular trailer I'm after is approx. £3000 (inclusive of 15% VAT).

Just today got a price in Ireland (republic): €4000 vat included. Wow.
I'll have to price around a bit more in Ireland to get an average.

Mccabeherself, any ideas who your father bought from in the UK?
Haven't looked in NI yet I admit.

Cormywormy - for what it's worth the trailer is not for myself. My brother is computer illiterate so I'm doing him a favour.
He is interested in 2nd hand so if you could send on the details that would be great.

Leg wax - how on earth did you think of that name! Unique.
I've already mailed Westwood but no reply as of yet.

I see youve got some more work done on it since I was last online!:pac:

Well we got ours in the north, my uncle actually imports them as well (im fairly sure its the north he gets them from instead of Britain)

So if that one mentioned above doesnt work out I can check with him for you if you like.

I could buy a racing car with a UK trailer. How could I tow that car in Ireland? Should I register the trailer first?

What do you mean register the trailer? All you need is to buy it stick your own number plate on the back, make sure all lights and brakes work and drive on, once you have the required licence that is.

Ah is that easy? Where do I get a number plate. I guess there is an office from the gov. which does that. I know they sounds dumb questions but I have never had my own trailer and I am from another country.

Number plates can be got in most auto care shops, depending on the shop some will look for proof of ownership of the vehicle, they will want the tax book to make sure you own the car, others will be happy enough to print you the plate if you land to the door with the car and the set of keys.
