    Hi all,

    Just two quick questions:

    1. When making an application for permission, do you have to produce professionally drawn plans (from an Architect)?

    2. Is there any time limit on the completion of a self build.

    Thanks...IM

No there is nothing to say you have to use an architect, you can draw them yourself if you like, but they must be to scale, and carry all the information the planners and public will need to see to make an informed decision.

Have a look at some plans on your local planners website to see what you need. It must include maps from the ordinance survey, site plans, elevations, plans, and finish descriptions.

Id agree with the above. If you are not sure of what you are doing engage someone who does know and who is familiar with planning applications.

To answer your second question, the planning permission will be valid for 5 years so you are expected to have the works completed within that time scale. However if you have "substantial works" completed before the 5 years are up you can apply then for up to a 3 year extension of time to enable you to complete the works.
