I'm looking to put music to this, but I really can't sing, so that is out of the question. If there is anybody out there who wants to sing along to these lyrics with a simple piano + bass + drum beat in the background, hit me up!

    What Used to Be

You were always there for me, through thick and thin.
Whatever happened, I would always win.
You always showed your love to me in everyway,
Through everything you did and said, in everyday.
You always made me happy, made me laugh and smile,
I was only ever sad for a little while.
You were part of me, I was part of you.
It felt like in the world, it was only us two.

When our eyes met, I used to melt,
I was in love, or so it felt.
But what happened since, I want to know.
There was no stop to our love,
    But now there's no go.
I want you back; I want it again to be just you and me.
I want our love to show once more for everyone to see.
I want to go back to the way it used to be,
No longer do I wish to live my life just as me.
I want you there, through everything as two,
Again I want it to be me and you.

You used to kiss me; you used to hold me tight.
You never let me go down without a fight.
You took away my fears, you made me strong,
But we drifted apart, as time went on.
You made me whole, you made me 'me',
Now I cry, as I think of what used to be…

6 months ago 'I couldn't sing for the life of me'. The howling dogs and cats in the area would testify to this...

    A little insider tip:

Its exactly like every other instrument, just takes practice and to find your style/range. The worst part (for me anyway) was getting over how embarrassing it was hearing my own voice in that context. Seriously...

If you haven't found your range yet (I'm assuming you play guitar) get your hands on a capo and move it from the first fret on until your voice feels comfortable. Worked for me, found it on the second fret. If I sing in any other key is terrible.

I'm liking the song and can see it holds a lot for you. Could be a great place to start since your not bogged down by hitting predetermined notes. Just sing and see what happens.

You'd be surprised... I was! Best of luck!
