I know there have been countless threads on this, but anyway, here goes.

I'm looking to be custom fitted for a new driver. I've been quoted €60 for an hour session. Does that sound about right?

The Kinsealy Grange have a new Fitting Centre Graeme and as far as I am aware a fitting is e30 for a 30 minute session.

Sounds okay but a lot of places do a deal where they deduct this from the cost of buying the suggested new club ie: the €60 really only applies if you don't make a subsequent purchase from them.

At your level, I'd find it hard to fork out any money to someone who didn't have the same level of analysis as Foregolf.

Hmmm... how much you talking in Foregolf? It's a bit out of the way for me, but i'm willing to go and get it right. I've been fannying about for far too long.

What do foregolf do that other places won't?

Sounds good. I've been out there for a lesson before and was quite impressed. Have they a full range of different makes and models do you know?

I'm really just going on feedback from the forum here but also a couple of mates of mine who are very good players and went there. They seem to be the real deal with a combination of better technology and experience from fitting top players.

I'm sure other places are fine for fitting general players but the fact is you shoot in the 70s regularly yet for some reason have been through a number of good drivers with good shafts without much luck in finding what's right for you. At a guess, I'd bet there's some nuance in your technique that means your require a very specific set-up. My point was, if you want to find out why you've had limited success finding the right stick and discover what that specific driver set-up you need is, as opposed to a basic getting custom fit, I'd go as hi-tech as I could.

Maybe the guy you've got the €60 quote from is very good, I've no idea, but I'd imagine you're talking about quite an intricate spec change and that's what would put me off going to someone at least lesser renouned than FG.

I know I sound like an ad here but note that I've never gone to ForeGolf myself.

Graeme I have been and no complaints.

Friendly bunch who know their stuff.

They have loads of different clubs with different shafts in same models.

I paid €50 for a half an hour on 2 clubs but was there for around 45 minutes.

Licksey on here knows them and they know him.

Cheers Trampas.... so how does it work? You go down, pay your session fee and then hit loads of balls with different variations of shaft etc and they show you which one was best? Do they then make the club up for you and you buy it?

    Probably a daft question...

Will do Loft! Glad to hear it's settling in well. Now just to find it's replacement... a few teething problems with the Titleist!!

You ring up to arrange a booking.

They fit you out and the club is ordered and you get it in 5 - 7days.

I got a Titlesit 909H and it came with my name on the Titlesit sticker

    Sale is 18th/19th April.

    2008 models.

Not sure if they are doing fitting in them

I think it is demo models that they are shifting.

They are getting Wilson and someone else on board now. They must have nearly all brands after these 2 on board.

do fore golf adjust your existing clubs - loft, shafts, etc..
and if so, anyone know their rates?

I know it's been mentioned that I know them and they know me but just to say I'm not connected to them in any way other than me being a paying customer.
I got recommended to them by my friend who had been to them and they sent him away until he was longer playing the game and had a more settled swing so I knew I was dealing with professionals then...

I got my irons adjusted for loft and lie.
I bought woods and hybrids from them with custom shafts based on their analysis.
I'm not sure what the story is with buying one club and getting analysed for it... Trampas explains that above.

Regarding the Driver, with me I was interested in the TM Superquad and they have that clubhead with the ability to screw in several different shafts which only takes a minute so you can instantly see and feel the difference the shaft makes to the flight and the overall feel of swinging the club.
Give them a ring to confirm the details.

I had been thinking of going up there, it's only 20mins from me... Like the above OP asked, I don't need any new clubs but if they recmommended a dnew driver shaft, for example, I would probably go for it...

Any idea of what kinda money I'm lookin at for this?

I got my irons adjusted early last year and I think it was €100 to adjust them for loft and lie. This covered the cost of doing the work, not the analysis that went beforehand. But like I said, make a phone call or send an email to find out for sure yourself.

I was in touch with them today and their customer service was absolutely spot on. So helpful and friendly.

I'd love to take a trip down, but they're heavily booked. Can't get a weekend slot for 6 weeks so unless i take an afternoon off it's a no go for me at the minute... and i need a solution pretty quick. Shame, as they seem first class.

    Graeme,
Andy from the Barton Cup team was extolling the virtues of the Launch Monitor they use in Golfvision at the weekend, think it's how he picked his latest driver. From a quick look at their website they seem to be using Flightscope (as against Trackman in Foregolf), and I'm honestly not sure of the merits of one versus the other (though I'm sure a quick search would get you plenty of opinion), but they might be worth at least contacting if you're looking to make a change in a hurry, cos I'd guess there's not a 6 week wait there, and they seem to be open evenings also.

Lucky enough I don't live to far away from them so could hope down on my lunch.

Give them your number and ask them to give you a call if any cancellations.

I'm pretty keen to get a solution quickly though, that's the problem. My driving is killing me and i've some important stuff coming up so i want to get it back on track. Through the week is a bit of a ball-ache for me anyway and they don't do evenings.

My driving is all over the place.

Haven't got a clue where it is going to go.

    Heart breaking.

Not to completely put the cat amongst the pigeons... but would you consider getting a lesson? In truth, custom fitting will make your good ones even better and your dodgy ones okay. If you're all over the shop, a different shaft/head probably isn't the solution.

I know you don't go in for lessons much but...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,361 ✭✭✭f22

I agree on the lesson front but I think that if you play the game to a decent level, which someone like Graeme does you know whether a club isn't right for you.

I've gone through it for the last 18 months, blaming injury mainly. My driver has always been the best club in the bag and when I dropped to a 9.5 things started to go downward.

After many combinations and money down the drain I let the launch monitor do the talking and went back to a 10.5 with a mid/high launch stiff shaft. The change has been unreal and I'm pissed off I let it go for so long.

Any good pro should be able to tell you very quickly whether a club is wrong for you though.

I've been toying with the idea of a few lessons, but I've pin-pointed what was going wrong with my irons and i'm slowly getting there with practice.

The driver is a different story though. As F22 says, i just know it's not right for me. It's 9.5 stiff, which i thought was ideal for me, but i now realise it's not and that i haven't got a clue what is!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,087 ✭✭✭Trampas

Not to go to far off topic.

I am thinking about getting a lesson but haven't a clue where to go. I am in the N4 - N7 area in Kildare.

So would like a recommendation to see where it is all going wrong.

Don't have the same problem with any other club like I do my driver

You mind if I ask what the problem is Graeme? As in, what kind of bad shots are you hitting? As a mid-handicapper, I find it interesting to hear what problems low handicappers have to deal with and how they try fix em etc.

No worries if you'd prefer not to talk about it! :pac:

I have to say Graeme its all trial and error i think the best way to sort this out is to go to some test centre that will allow you to choose what ever make model and head shape you are looking for and then simply try different lofts and shaft flex.

My brother was telling me that he got fitted for a cobra driver but the guy doing it just some how took out a shaft on the spot and replaced it with say a regular or stiff.

    Some new custom fitting thing.

I would be careful that you are not just choosing a club or shaft to suit a swing fault.

Not having a dig at you but you need to be honest with yourself.
