The discovery of a woman’s body today in an upstairs bedroom of a house is being treated as suspicious.

Gardaí found the remains in the house at Closegate Street in Waterford city at around 1am this morning.

It is believed the 51-year-old woman had marks around her neck when found by gardaí responding to a call from an ambulance crew.

State Pathologist Marie Cassidy was called to the scene to carry out a post mortem examination.

The house has been sealed off for forensic examination by experts from the Garda Technical Bureau.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on the woman's body this afternoon and the results of this indicate there was nothing suspicious in her death, according to gardai.
